Press the space bar to start the anthem and the green flag to stop it. "God Save the Tsar!" was the national anthem of the Russian Empire, used from 1833 to 1917. The anthem was composed by violinist Alexei Lvov, and the lyrics were written by Vasily Zhukovsky. It was first performed on 18 December 1833 and was the anthem until the February Revolution of 1917. The anthem was used until the revolution, after which "Worker's Marseillaise" and then "The Internationale" were adopted as the new national anthem. The melody of the anthem continues to appear in various modern English language hymnals and is also used with different lyrics for various institutional songs.
