All of the story is true, except names (changed for privacy). ————— “Are you ready for camp, Willow?” Gram asked. “Lunch? Water bottle? Extra clothes? Rain gear?” “Yeah, I’m ready.” I said. “Off you go, then! And make sure you have fun!” Gram hugged me, then closed the door. I walked down the sidewalk, my eyes on my feet. A jewel necklace bounced on my neck. I had been going to a day camp for a week this summer. We were focusing on outdoor skills, so basically every day we did some arts and crafts related to wildlife, then the teachers would give us compasses and get us lost in the woods. My parents had really wanted me to make friends, and I did, too! But I wasn’t really good at that sort of thing. Usually, I had to bond over something with someone. { Guess I won’t make any friends here this summer, } I thought. It was already Thursday, and my chances were getting low. { I just wish that that kid — Ash, he said? — had approved of me. He already has a group of friends. } What had happened was that I had made friends with Ash’s friend, Quinn, one day. She had been drawing and I had walked over and asked if I could draw with her. The next day, Quinn had asked Ash if I wanted to be in the group. I overheard. My tuned-in leopard ears overheard. It was a no. ——— Heart and star please if you liked!!!
