[Very serious topic I'm talking about here. I'm really only talking about this because it's regarding a game I actually enjoy playing.] Based on KreekCraft's video regarding this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXBfpE0-YrE _____________________________________________ So, Doom by Fate updated around a few days ago, adding a new character called 1x1x1x1. He was VERY epileptic, having insanely glitchy visuals, which was prone to severely affect anyone with epilepsy. And that's what happened, when around 1-2 days ago (as of making this), a person by the name of Kit was reported to have not only been hospitalized, but allegedly DIED from said effects, since they were epileptic and didn't know about the dangers 1x1x1x1 brought. But the worst part was the response to the situation. People who were suspected to have been on the dev team began mocking the situation, telling people to "grow up" and making fun of those who were concerned for someone's life. This, of course, led the community into an outrage. I mean, if you made a game that supposedly killed someone, not in-game but in real life, I would believe in a heartbeat that your response would be to, at the very least, properly address the situation, not MOCK it. But, here's the thing. It's not even fully confirmed whether Kit had actually died. And a few hours ago, before I started typing this out, an update to the situation had come out. You've probably noticed something was up when I stated "People who were SUSPECTED to have been on the dev team." Four new things had come into light regarding the drama: 1. DrakoBloxxer, aka Mel and the person who started this whole thing, is being suspected of LYING about a person named Kit having been hospitalized. Their stories had a couple of holes in it, which has started to severely hurt their credibility. 2. The dev team was actually working on adding an epilepsy mode to the game prior to when 1x1x1x1 released, but the feature was bugged and didn't work properly, so they needed to hire someone to fix it. This issue was, thankfully, fixed not too long ago. 3. The thing I was referring to not too long ago. The people who made those vile, disgusting comments mocking the situation weren't even ON the dev team, with the sole exception of one person named Josh. The rest were just artists/concept creators for the game. In fact, the actual dev team was ASLEEP during this situation, since they live in Asia, and have to deal with different timezones. 4. An extension of the above piece of new information, one of the main people under fire, DasS (aka the guy who asked for proof regarding Kit's "death" when it started to gain traction), only really helped out with managing the server. They actually quit the dev team around a month ago as of the situation happening, and had nothing to do with things. So to essentially summarize things... "Kit" is, most likely, a fabricated lie from Mel to spread awareness of 1x's effects. And the team, minus forgetting to add a proper epilepsy mode and warning, was actually innocent. It's mainly the artists, volunteers, and ONE single developer who made these disgusting comments. They, of course, were promptly cut off. I'll just real quickly share my 2 cents to this situation. Despite the good news being that no one actually died, there's still a lot of fault that everyone involved is at: - There's Mel for lying about something so serious. Sure, epilepsy is a serious issue, and spreading awareness about it is great. But when you resort to faking a death to do so, then you're doing it wrong. - There's the people who made those terrible comments, though I don't even have to explain what they did. I'm glad they faced the punishment they so deserved, though. - And of course, there's the dev team themselves, for not properly ensuring that there was a functionally working epilepsy warning and mode set in place, before releasing 1x1x1x1. Hopefully, that's the end of this drama. I don't know if I'll ever do any follow-ups to this if more information is revealed, but we'll see. And of course, it would be wrong for you to harass anyone involved. So don't do that, alright? Thanks.
