Chapter 12: Nayra had to practically chase Kyle and his horse Spirit on the way to Kakariko, though she finally caught up with him outside Wetland Stable, where he’d stopped to let his horse have a rest. Nayra didn’t know why he was acting like this, the usually level-headed Sheikah boy she knew had become a closed-off, moody teenager. She walked calmly over to his tall figure and leant next to him on the wooden railing. Kyle tried to avoid eye contact but did acknowledge her existence with a small sideways glance. Nayra breathed deeply before turning to fully face him, she asked gently ‘Kyle, what’s wrong? You avoided me completely on the way here. I know you don’t want to go to Kakariko, but at least let me know why? It might be a sensitive topic, but i’m here to listen- truly I am.’ He sighed too before also readjusting his position and saying, ‘I’m sorry Nayra, I…I don’t like talking about my feelings but it was wrong of me to desert you like that…The truth is..well, it’s complicated.’ He paused slightly before continuing, ‘my mother and I..don’t always get on, to put it lightly. Ever since my…my….’ he broke off, sorrow caught in his throat. Nayra softly held Kyle’s hand in hers, looked into his eyes and whispered to him, ‘Hey, hey, it’s okay- look at me. It’s okay, we’re okay, you’re okay. Whatever it is you need to tell me is going to be less painful when shared, i’m never going to force you to tell me, but if it helps then I'm always here, to listen.’ At her soothing words, the tears glistening in Kyle’s eyes faded and he seemed to come back into the real world, where he was standing with Nayra in the grassy field of a stable, and where his grief felt more manageable than it ever had. Kyle took a shaky breath and continued his sentence, ‘Ever since my..dad left us…my mother was determined to stay strong. But that became impossible when….we lost my brother..’ ‘Oh my goddess, Kyle! I didn’t even know you had a brother..’ Nayra replied sadly. ‘Kaelix was..the best person I ever knew..I wanted to be him. He was going to be a master swordsman, he was actually going to assist your dad, Link, before he..died.’ ‘Kyle, i’m so sorry for your loss, I had no idea’ Nayra answered, squeezing his hand. ‘It’s okay,’ Kyle replied, ‘you don’t have to apologise, it was a..long time ago, well, i was 13 so 5 years ago.. he was our age. And, my mother pretends like she’s fine, when I know she’s not..I know I'm not the child she wanted..I know she wants her firstborn back and I know that no matter how hard I try, I will never fill the space he left. I remind her too much of our father, and not enough of Kaelix.’ ‘None of those things are your fault! I promise. And I know what it feels like to think you’re not good enough..but please, know it’s not true. You are the bravest, the strongest and the kindest person I know. And if your mother can’t see that, then that’s her problem. Focus on those who do love you for being you. You have me, Purah, Impa and many more who I know care so deeply about you. So please, don’t block us out Kyle, we’re here for you, I’m here for you.’ ‘Thank you Nayra, that means a lot’, he said, voice shaking slightly with emotion. ‘Of course, come here’ Nayra said softly before pulling him into a hug. She stood with her arms round his shoulders, Kyle’s long arms enveloped her, as hers did to him, and she rubbed his back slowly as he cried gently into her shoulder, trembling with all the held back emotions. They stayed like that for a while, just holding each other. Finally, they pulled back and Nayra wiped the last tear off Kyle’s face before he kissed her lightly on the forehead and whispered ‘Thank you, again, I really needed that.’ ‘Always.’ She replied. And with that, the duo mounted their horses again and made their way to Kakariko Village. thats it for now!! hope you enjoyed, ik i loved writing this one <3 see ya at chapter 13 (>-<) chapter 11: chapter 13: hasn't been written yet lmao
