I made this poster to hang up on my community board where I live. Me and my group of friends are making a bunch of these to spread all around where we live to spread awareness about what AI is doing to the world right now. What AI is doing to them: AI affects polar bears negatively. High energy demands for training and operating AI systems fuel climate change through increased carbon emissions, accelerating the Arctic sea ice melting that is crucial for polar bear hunting. Conversely, AI "bear-dar" Negative Impacts Energy Consumption: Data centres powering AI consume massive amounts of energy, with a significant portion still relying on fossil fuels, which speeds up global warming. Ice Melt Acceleration: The resulting temperature rise accelerates the loss of Arctic sea ice, which is critical for polar bears to hunt seal prey. Habitat Loss: Reduced ice forces bears to spend more time on land, leading to thinner, weaker individuals and reduced survival rates.
