Have you ever woken up, got out of bed, and when straight to drawing, only to realize…YOUR ART LOOKS BAD!!?!?!?! Art regression is something that every artist fears, but what to do when this situation actually happens? — REASON 1 - KNOWLEDGE OUTPACING SKILL One the main reasons your art may look "bad" is because you simply lack the ability to apply your skills properly. This usually comes from a lack of genuine practice., or not practicing at all. While you may KNOW when anatomy looks wrong or when you’re colours are muddy, what comes next is being able to spot the problem and fix it, which is what most artists struggle with. The best way to solve this problem is to flip your canvas (flipping the canvas can easily show the inconsistency in your art) or ask other artists what is wrong. Learn to observe, but also learn how to apply/fix. REASON TWO - SPENDING TOO MUCH TIME ON ART For the heavens sake, PLEASE TAKE BREAKS WHILE DRAWING!!!! Taking a step back from obsessive drawing can prevent obsession over details and getting overwhelmed (especially you’re blasting music through your headphones/earbuds), not to mention wrist pain or future vision problems. Heck, maybe take a day or two off or drawing, that way you’ll have a fresh mind next time you draw. If you want to, try redrawing or "fixing" some of your old drawings. Whether you think you’ve regressed or not, fixing your old art can easily show how much you’ve improved. REASON THREE - TOO MUCH COMPARISON Ykw I’ll keep it plain and simple; seeing a artist who is more skilled than you should motivate you, not discourage you. And if you are discouraged by seeing other’s people work and wondering why you’re work isnt as good, try to take a break from the Internet, but also acknowledge that people will learn differently and at different paces. A person who has been drawing for less time than you might of drawn every single day, studied really hard, and gotten professional advice to get really good at art. Please don’t compare yourself!!! And if you really want to become like your favorite artist, try to study their style or ask for advice from fellow artists. — In all fairness, it’s completely fine to think your art is bad, but it’s important to not let tear you down. Find your passion in art, and make sure to have fun! You’re always improving, even if you don’t see any. <3
