Tristan wasn’t at school Wednesday, probably recovering from his fever still, but as soon as he got back, I could tell something was off. He and Kaden didn’t speak to each other at all– there wasn’t even a single attempt. And they wouldn’t look at each other, either. Lunch and recess were uncomfortably silent. Neither of them said a word. By recess on Friday, I was over it. I dragged Tristan off as soon as we got outside. “What’s going on??” I ask. Tristan avoids my gaze, scratching at the back of his hand. “Nothing..” He says quietly. His voice wavered even with just that one word. “Did you and Kaden fight or something..? You guys have been super close for a while now, and suddenly you’re not speaking at all– something’s wrong.” Tristan lets out a shaky exhale. “You’re going to hate me if I tell you..” He mumbles, scratching harder. I grab his wrist so he’ll stop, my eyes widening. “Tristan, no. Why would I make fun of you..?” I ask, squeezing his hand.. His chest is heaving as he opens his mouth to speak. “I kissed him, okay?” He blurts out, trying to wriggle his hand free from my grasp. My mouth drops open. “You WHAT??” Tristan winces, covering his face in his hands. “I don’t want to talk about this anymore– Anya already gave me a whole talking to,” He says, eyes drifting to the soccer field. “I know I should talk to him, I know…. But just thinking about it for even a second makes me want to rip my hair out…” He rants. I shove aside my shock and confusion to comfort him, pulling him into a hug. “It’s gonna be okay,” I promise. “Just talk to him. In fact, you guys should do that right now.” Tristan looks pale. His eyes don’t drift off anymore. Instead, they stay fixed firmly on his shoes. “I really don’t know if I can do that..” he confesses. I notice Kaden heading towards us. I grab Tristan's hand. “Perfect timing.” sorry it's been months and the chapter is super short I promise I have more written (like 10 chapters I think) I just don't have a lot of motivation to put chapters together <//33 I need to work on it i'm sorry thank you all for sticking around through this mess <3333 I love you guys
