(PRESS SPACE TO SEE ANIMATION (ONLY AFTER COMPLETING SLIDE SHOW) (USE ARROW TO SEE SLIDE SHOW) A bulb glows when electric current flows through it in a complete circuit. The bulb contains a thin wire called a filament. When a charged battery is connected to the bulb using wires, electricity flows from the battery through the filament. Due to resistance, the filament heats up and starts glowing, producing light. For the bulb to glow, three things are necessary: a bulb, a charged battery, and proper connections forming a closed circuit. If the circuit is broken, the bulb will not glow.
