I just wanted to make this because it's been on my mind for quite a while. The book is not perfect. It's not... bad, per se, but it could be much, much better. Here are some of the problems I've been struggling with: 1.) Overly edgy The book might be on a good path for getting an M rating or whatever you want to call it. Swearing becomes ridiculously frequent and the "Big F" and quite a few "Big S"s have been dropped. Some of the jokes get to a point where they aren't even suggestive, just straight up blatant and really inappropriate. The final fight is probably going to get... extremely graphic, to say the least. but i dunno if that matters as much because it's a cartoon but still. It all adds up. A lot of the people who read the storyboards have told me to tone it down a little bit to appeal to a more broad audience. Because the book is about teenagers, so making it readable for that age range would add more relatability and overall just increase the general audience and overall popularity of the book. 2.) Strange writing This one I'm not as sure about, but I feel like the writing is sorta weird, especially the dialogue. Most of the characters don't show as much personality as I thought they would and they don't have enough flaws. A lot of the stuff they say is just to move the plot forward and not add any meaningful interactions. There are a sprinkle of some really emotional interactions but the other stuff is just meh. There to be there. The structure is also kind of strange, it's just the characters going around trying to defeat crazy people to get keys that just lead to the final boss, essentially. It's more or less structured like a video game instead of a book (although I would rather make a game if I knew how, but I'll be learning coding next year so who knows.) 3.) WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY too long The book will most likely, on the path it's on, be over 300 PAGES. And the chapters themselves can range from 15 pages long to, like, 60? so it's pretty inconsistent. Plus, for being mostly 2/3 comedy 1/3 overbloated storytelling, it seems like that may be a little long. 4.) Ridiculous final battle sequence The final battle is probably part of the reason it's gonna be so long. It will be split up into a ton of different acts and while it will be epic, I have spoiled... WWAAAAAYYYYY too much on Scratch so that will take away from one of the major twists of the book and just what will be happening. And if a final battle is too long, even if it's good, it wont matter because the reader will get really bored. I know i'll probably need to cut some stuff from it, but it's all so good. It's just if I add all of them, it's gonna become way too much. I don't know if any of these problems are that big, or if they even exist at all, but I could use any help I can get on them if you believe you might have a decent solution so let me know in the comments.
