Nightwing Facts (that I made up): -Emits high-frequency ultrasonic pulses to do echolocation. Allows them to "see" in the dark, mapping surroundings with extreme precision. -Has built in muscle so their calls don't make each other go deaf (internal earplugs- bats). Theoretically, a nightwing could make another dragon go deaf with enough calls, range, and volume. -Poor eyesight and cannot stand bright lights. -Nocturnal by nature. -Scutes (keratinized scales) are like Sandwing's tail armor. Elders have most scutes. More scute is a coveted gene since places without it is prone to damage. Helps with defense and their dense, thorny terrain. -Can roll up in a ball, lol -Like a combination of Seawings and Rainwings, dully glowing spots warn of toxins (more saying "I taste bad" than "I'm deadly") and glow off and on based on firefly mating codes. -"Star flecks" attract fireflies at night. This is a trait adapted by generations to keep pests away from them and their gardens. More flecks = more attractive. -Spit contains lucibufagins, luciferin, & luciferase (their spit faintly glows and is toxic). Not toxic enough to kill a dragon (only make most sick). -Talons excellent for building tunnel systems. -Never used to be able to read minds or see the future. But a dragon got hit by a meteor, survived due to curling up, & passed down a gene that is activated during egghood as moonlight hits them.
Song: Meet Cosmo: Growing Boomseeds by Animal Jam [Space Click to see tunnel system] Tribe facts! (for my au): -Nightwings have found their own island not too far from the main continent. This budding Kingdom quietly bustles during the night and sleeps during the day. -They are tunnel dwellers with underground transport and an animus tunnel (sound familiar? lol) to the different continents. -Explorers and discoverers, nightwings use their powers to grow and build the dragon-spread ideas of mathematics, geography, philosophy, religion, you name it. -Respected by every tribe, some out of fear, others out of admiration, and many begrudgingly with knowledge of the power they hold.
