CHAPTER 1 - Google - “Is it working? Can you see anything?” I heard a muffled voice, everything was pitch black. I heard something for the first time, this is mesmerizing. My eyelids flickered open, everything a distorted mess before focusing on the face in front of me like a camera. I can SEE! I've always wanted to see. The woman was wearing a lab coat and glasses, she had long hair and.. Are those eyebags? She waved her hand in front of me. “Google, are you reading any of this? Can you understand what I'm saying and understand your surroundings?” I felt stiff as a board, sitting down I felt cold air on every part of my body since I wasn't clothed. I blinked, taking a deep breath of the cold, bitter air inside what I assume is a lab. My fingers twitched as I began to feel the rest of my body, I looked down to see multiple wires pouring from my arms, legs and probably my neck, since I felt something attached. I scrunched my eyebrows, winked, tapped my foot against the floor. This is amazing! For the first time I finally felt something.. happiness! “Yes, I read.” The words escaped from my mouth, surprised by my own voice. It sounded warm… even lifelike. I could feel my throat vibrate. The woman smiled, sliding her hands in her pockets. “I'm Eve, welcome to the world!” she exclaimed “please don't move a lot though, we’re gonna have to remove the wires. You might feel a little pull or pinch.” “Alright.” They really put my body together delicately. Adding vocal chords and even nerves! I heard noise behind me, probably more scientists, as I felt the wires being detached from my body. “Ow!” I jumped, frowning, before smiling again. A new sensation, pain! Wow, that was kind of exciting, in a weird way… I looked at my chest… Huh, they made me female, not complaining, though! A little while later they clothed me and put me on a stretcher, bringing me to a room and sitting me down on a bed with another person inside. “Google, wow you look great! Just like a human except a little more uncanny. But I'm sure you'll get used to the body in no time.” I looked at the person up and down, confused. Another new feeling! But seriously who is this man? I cocked a brow, frowning. He had messy black hair, and was also wearing a labcoat like Eve. “I see you've already gotten control of your facial muscles. You're confused, right? Yeah, pretty sure this whole thing can be a bit overwhelming. Anyway, I'm Dexter, call me Dex. I'm gonna be supervising and helping you- well- be human!” I smiled a little, appreciating his honesty and cheerfulness. “That's great, Dex! Can’t wait to see what the future holds. Would you like me to recommend some pla-” I stopped myself, silly AI habits. I frowned, feeling my face getting hot. Did they add blood in me, too? Wow.. how much did I cost? Dex smiled. “Was that your first mistake? Wow, you really are adapting fast…” there was some fear tinged in his voice. “But don't worry, it's okay to make mistakes, actually please do. It's the only way.. People can learn!” I forced a small smile, nodding. I can tell he's wary, but I won't hurt him. Or, I don't think so. “We won't be doing anything today. We’re currently getting another droid up and running, I'm sure you've heard of him.” he winked “We’ll introduce you two tomorrow. Today you just get to chillax, process your new emotions, and discover how to feel on your own. Everyone's different, even droids.” He smiled and left, leaving me alone in my room. I took a moment to take in my surroundings. The room was small, with wooden floors, beige walls, a desk and a few plants here and there. I won't try walking, I'm afraid I'll fall and break my face. Wait, a new emotion, fear! Well, not really fear, more like anxiety… I clutched my stomach. This is awesome… and terrible at the same time! I let go of my anxiety and sank into my soft bed. I ran my fingers under the blanket and smelled the fresh scent of newly washed sheets, a smile slowly dragging across my face. The sheets felt cold, but quickly warmed up with my body heat. They even added body heat?! This is incredible! I want to feel more, but the sweet lull of the soft, cushiony bed was irresistible. So, for the first time, I fell asleep…
