This is NOT made to convert anyone!! If you have questions or want to discuss anything please comment!! 1. Helpol is short for "Hellenic Polytheism" (meaning Greek polytheism) 2. There is no master text of hellenic polytheism 3. There aren't any rules, more of guidelines, these are: a) You won't get things from the gods if you don't give anything to them (no, this doesn't mean harm for benefit, typically offerings or devotional acts work!!) b) Don't compare yourself to the gods or challenge their skills in their areas of expertise (this is called Hubris!) c) Stay clean and hygienic when doing sacred things (this is called Miasma!!) d) Be kind and respectful to everyone e) Don't offend Zeus, he is the King of the Universe f) Don't offend Hera, she is his Queen g) Bow before Khaos, she is the mother of all creation (not as in she created everything) 4. Hellenic polytheism is a spectrum of beliefs (ex: some believe in reincarnation, some don't) 5. Myths aren't typically taken as literal/truth (ex: Zeus doing what we considered immoral in myths isn't accurate to him as a god) 6. One can choose to worship certain gods while still respecting all the others 7. It's not an aesthetic 8. It's not a fandom, the mythology can be considered a fandom but the religion itself isn't 9. Some believe Tartarus is like helpol hell and horrible ppl get sent there, while others believe only immortals can go there 10. Some believe that The Elysium Fields exist, it is where those who achieve glory may go (it just means you took actions to change the world and got recognition) 11. The most common belief is that the average person gets sent to The Asphodel Fields after death 12. Almost anything can be considered a devotional act (ex: self care for Lady Aphrodite) 13. It's VERY important to do research when worshipping (I recommend theoi.com!!) 14. N_dity is considered purity, it is not to be disgusted by 15. The gods expect you to try your best, never feel bad if you are struggling to worship as long as you try your absolute best! 16. Almost ANYTHING can be offered (this does NOT include body parts or bodily fluids, do NOT do that please) 17. It is a common misconception that the gods try to deceive mortals by disguising themselves as each other, this is not true 18. Veiling is sometimes a practice people choose to do to show devotion, respect, connection, or receive protection from a god (some only wear sometimes, some don't wear at all, any option is ok! you can also veil with perfume, oils, or a simple cleansing) 19. When offering food to an Ouranic god (one that lives above ground) you may leave it out for a few hours, then you can dispose of it or consume it 20. When offering food to a Cthonic god (one that lives in the Underworld) you may dispose of it, if you eat it you are bringing that energy connected to the dead into yourself!! 21. There are more than 3k gods if you include all of the minor gods 22. There are many gods of the same element 23. Nature is VERY tied to Hellenic polytheism 24. There is likely over a million believers of Hellenic Polytheism, and it is increasing as it gets more widespread 25. Some call it Hellenism, which isn't fully accurate as the term Hellenism is for just believing in the ideals of ancient Greece, not specifically the gods!!
Fun fact abt me: I worship specifically Lord Zeus, Lady Iris, Lady Athena, Lord Poseidon, Lady Artemis, Lord Apollon, Lord Hermes, Lord Hermaphroditus, Lady Arete, Lady Aphrodite, Lady Kakia, Lord Palaemon, Lady Persephone, Lord Hades, Lady Hestia, and Lord Dionysus (I am debating on making an altar for Lady Hecate)
