Chapter two Even though Study Hall was more quieter than the other kids at Lakeside Preparatory it was still not quiet enough. Chairs scrapping against to floor, sound of pages turning, some students purposely doing it extra loud. The tapping of keyboards also helped the noise...not the students. Everyone was working, well they are supposed to be working but most were pretending. Whispers also help fill the room. Lila just stared at her notebook, pencil in hand ready to write but her page was blank. She felt distracted, her thoughts drifting off. She had a feeling she couldn't quite explain. Ari in the seat beside her noticed. “Are you ok? You aren't writing and your page is empty.” Lila blinked like she didn't realize. “I am gonna write. Ari just gave a small understanding smile Sabrina acros the room was neatly organizing her notes, highlighting important parts with her expensive highlighters, like she was trying to stay in control of her surroundings She looked like she was trying to study. ‘Probably for the english test' Lila thought. Zara wasn't doing any work, her eyes constantly drifting on different people around the room. She made herself comfortable, leaning back in her chair. Noticing movements, patterns, habits. But then she goes back to ignoring them. Ari moved in her seat, trying to get comfortable. She opened her notebook, wrote down a few notes for the english test. “You're quiet” she said softly. Lila hesitates before responding. “I'm fine” she insisted. Sabrina sighs from across the room. “You guys always say that” she mutters not looking up from jotting down her notes. Lila looked back down on her notebook, writing her name. The room went back as it was. But the room felt uneven. Each girl felt something was going to go bad in the group, even though no one said what. Zara's eyes glanced at Ari but then back at her own laptop acting like she was doing work the whole time.
