❀ Q - (Not part of the survey) Would you like your answers to be credited (if so, to what username?) or would you like to remain anonymous? ❀ A - It's up to you, I don't mind my name being out for this; feel free to use this account for it! ❀ Q - How long have you been voice acting? ❀ A - About 8 months. If you count my old account, like a year and a half. ❀ Q - How do you most frequently find a series to audition for? ❀ A - I used to use VA studios and then look for ones with good artwork. Now, it's more of people coming to me since college is getting busy and my work load is waaaay heavier. ❀ Q - What makes you choose to click a casting call? ❀ A - Good artwork usually. I try to also take writing into account. I do know a lot of this platform are kids, so if I'm /asked/ to do it, I usually do it regardless. ❀ Q - After viewing a casting call, what makes you decide whether or not you want to audition for it? ❀ A - Good writing like I said before, I'm just going question by question here. Also having male characters in the first place (since like 70% for some reason have strictly female) ❀ Q - What is something (or multiple things) that will make you immediately choose not to audition for something? ❀ A - If it is insanely poor artwork, like something not worth my time. I know, again, a lot of this platform is kids but I respectfully cannot be bothered to VA for something that has zero true dedication. Also anything really, REALLY weird (this hasn't been an issue, but if there was something that really shouldnt be on here, I ain't doing it) ❀ Q - What component(s) make a casting call (not someone’s audition) high quality? ❀ A - Artwork. I've said it before numerous times, but artwork matters. A lot of my VA buddies also look for artwork first. Likewise, pronunciation sheets and good organization of sprites / directions. ❀ Q - What do you like to know about a series you’re considering auditioning for? ❀ A - Really not much, just more-of what type of series it is; like, is it more emotional? darker? lighter? It helps organize future performances. ❀ Q - Do you like to have a visual of the characters? ❀ A - Yes. Absolutely. If there isn't much detail on the type of voice, I usually go by looks. ❀ Q - What is important to include in a character’s voice description? ❀ A - Voice type and sound. For example, "Male, more lower toned, rugged and serious,-" maybe even include some details about WHO would be the voice, "- kind of like someone who just came from prison." ❀ Q - What’s your favorite kind of character to voice act or audition for? ❀ A - Emotional characters. I LOVE being able to project a lot of emotion in voiced characters, so if I'm able to, that's a huge bonus for me. ❀ Q - What should a casting call include? ❀ A - A casting call should include a general description of the series so people know what they're getting into, pronunciation for any crazy words or names, organized sprites and a place to place auditions, clear instructions, and a good flip-through of the characters so people can get a good look at them all. ❀ Q - What do you want to know about the character(s) you’re auditioning for? ❀ A - Just a general description of them with voice and gender mainly so my voice can fit a character properly. ❀ Q - Is it important for a casting call to be high quality and why or why not? ❀ A - Yes. Absolutely. A casting call being high quality is AMAZING for attracting good voice actors. Look at things with less quality and clear ineffort, and then look at stuff like FLEUR or your One Wrong Turn; they attracted tons of genuinely really talented voice actors as compared to those of low effort only getting certain people. If you want good actors, you need higher quality. ❀ Q - What is the best way for a series creator to give you lines you need to record? ❀ A -For me, I prefer it in a costume in Scratch based text. Don't draw the lines in a separate software, especially if it needs to be copied over to a doc of some kind. Notes work too, they're decent but I find costumes to be easier. ❀ Q - What would you want the creator of a series to know about when it comes to VAs? ❀ A - For older VAs, we have lives. We are very busy with things like college and jobs. Soon, I'll be going to university! So, it'd be really nice if you could give us a notification here and there about the series and give us at least 2-3 weeks of heads-up time. Don't beg us, but give us little heads up. It really does help. Also, haven't had any issues /yet/ but be patient with us, and if our voice isn't working at the time; let us know what to change with some tips like "keep the high energy but lower the voice a little and speak a bit slower". If we're told to just redo, it isn't helpful w/o knowing what exactly. ☆ That’s all the questions, thank you so much for doing this survey! ☆ Of course! I just put my thoughts down per question, so if any clarification is needed let me know. Hope these were helpful.
