☆ I’m working on a project that is meant to guide series creators on how to find and manage voice actors. I’m not a VA myself (edit - that may not be true anymore) so I would like some information from that perspective! ☆ ☆ Below is a survey of 15 questions that relate to voice acting. It’d be appreciated if you remixed this project with your answers! If there’s questions you don’t want to answer, that’s fine! ☆ ❀ Q - (Not part of the survey) Would you like your answers to be credited (if so, to what username?) or would you like to remain anonymous? ❀ A - idm, but my user is @CH3RRI-ON-T0P in case you do want to credit! ❀ Q - How long have you been voice acting? ❀ A - since about mid-late 2024. i started on my old account and eventually carried it over to this one ❀ Q - How do you most frequently find a series to audition for? ❀ A - you know the tab on the homepage where you can see what people you follow are doing? i primarily find my auditions there, though i've also been asked through my profile's comments ❀ Q - What makes you choose to click a casting call? ❀ A - primarily knowing that if i get a role, i'll be helping someone create a series that they're working hard on (i dont appease to anything ai related) ❀ Q - After viewing a casting call, what makes you decide whether or not you want to audition for it? ❀ A - mostly the story and if i actually want my name to be associated with it ❀ Q - What is something (or multiple things) that will make you immediately choose not to audition for something? ❀ A - use of generative ai, themes of you know what (can't say it on scratch), the creator not being respectful, and the creator having a bias are my main ones ❀ Q - What component(s) make a casting call (not someone’s audition) high quality? ❀ A - from what i've experienced, definitely the way it is laid out. heres what i think you would need to include: a short synopsis of the story, character descriptions and, of course, the audition lines. making the project easy to navigate will also help ❀ Q - What do you like to know about a series you’re considering auditioning for? ❀ A - mostly the story's plot and if the creator has done any other kind of work on games or another person's series ❀ Q - Do you like to have a visual of the characters? ❀ A - oh yes, absolutely! it gives me a better idea of the character's personality and what they should sound like ❀ Q - What is important to include in a character’s voice description? ❀ A - pitch, accent and if they have a specific kind of way they speak (eg they are very loud). ❀ Q - What’s your favorite kind of character to voice act or audition for? ❀ A - i mostly like characters who need an australian accent because i am australian. i consider myself pretty flexible in terms of pitch, but i really like to voice mentally unstable characters (idk why i can just do a really good evil/insane laugh lol) ❀ Q - What should a casting call include? ❀ A - for me personally, my ideal casting call has: a story synopsis, drawings of the characters, character descriptions and of course the voicelines! ❀ Q - What do you want to know about the character(s) you’re auditioning for? ❀ A - primarily their personality and what their voice is like. keep in mind that we could have an emo, cold, blunt character with a high pitched voice, so i like to know what kind of voice i have to do for them ❀ Q - Is it important for a casting call to be high quality and why or why not? ❀ A - i think it needs to at least look like the creator put effort into it. if the casting call is just the scratch cat and has everything in the description, that doesn't really feel like a good casting call to me because its obvious the creator just made it in five minutes so they could get started as soon as possible. ❀ Q - What is the best way for a series creator to give you lines you need to record? ❀ A - that depends on the person. you could either give them the lines on scratch where everyone can see, or you can give them the lines off-site where its more secretive. whatever the creator does is ultimately up to the creator tho ❀ Q - What would you want the creator of a series to know about when it comes to VAs? ❀ A - treat them with respect. don't just consider them one piece of the puzzle in your story. they are there to help you bring your characters to life! they're more important then you'd think. and behind the screen is someone with feelings, opinions, beliefs and boundaries that i feel like you have to remember and acknowledge. this part is long, but i feel like it needs to be long because i know people who have been tossed aside by creators of shows after they've worked hard to voice act and its just not fair at all. so please, all i ask is to have some human decency and give the VAs the credit they deserve ☆ That’s all the questions, thank you so much for doing this survey! ☆ np! hope you found my answers helpful :)
