Moving away from American companies, we finally get into the United Kingdom with Moonbug Entertainment. Short History: Moonbug Entertainment was founded in 1997 as a division of video game developer Argonaut Games. Argonaut founder and CEO Jez San established Moonbug initially to produce television adaptations of various Argonaut-produced games. In addition to producing said adaptations, the company also handled the British distribution and licensing of several kids-oriented shows, primarily those from D'Ocon, Portfolio Entertainment, TV-Loonland, among others. Beginning in 1999, Moonbug began producing its own IPs. The studio's most famous show was Cyberchase, a co-production with New York-based Curious Pictures. Cyberchase became one of PBS Kids' most successful shows during the 2000s. In 2004, Moonbug became an independent company after the closure of Argonaut Games. Starting in the mid-2000s, Moonbug would acquire the back catalogs of various defunct and or struggling kid-oriented companies. Two of the most notable acquisitions included Yahay! Productions in 2006 and the non-edutainment assets of Stagecast in 2008. The sale reunited San with the StarFox franchise (of which Stagecast held partial ownership prior to the sale). San would stepped down from Moonbug in 2012 citing desires to move on from the company. Moonbug VP John Robson took over as CEO of the company. Since 2016, the company has divided into 3 units. Moonbug Entertainment (kids and tweens), Moonbug Kids (toddlers) and Moonbug After Dark (teens and adults) Its mascot since 2008 is Fox McCloud. Fox McCloud is the main protagonist of the aforementioned StarFox franchise, which Moonbug currently co-owns with Nintendo.
