Because he actually liked something, he got thrown into the abyss and stayed there for a while. At one point he somehow climbed out of the abyss, and escaped Hallownest before the Radiance could infect him. After a long period of time stuck in the wild outskirts of the land, he went travelling. He ended up finding Pharloom, the dying kingdom, where he found the Wisp Thicket. It is there that he found his staff and started to learn the manipulation of fire. He also developed a liking for the fleas, wich he now spends his time finding. ================================ wow i wrote a lot there
