[ Warning: Horse mismanagement and passing ] 1984 - Sakura Star O was part of a generation known as the tragic generation along with Gold City. His major wins were the 1987 Satsuki Sho and Kikuka Sho, making him a double crown winner. Star O was so popular he was first in the fan vote of the 1987 Arima Kinen. Even though he was supposed to rest and wasn't in great condition, he was forced to run in the Arima Kinen and suffered a severe injury. Despite the severity, his caretakers tried to heal his injury and keep him in good health. Fans sent him paper cranes and staff took care of Star O whenever they could but on May 12, 1988, he was euthanized at only 4 years old. During his funeral, the staff didn't want to bury Star O's racing equipment as they wished he would never have to suffer and run anymore in the afterlife.
