Long ago, Knuckles' Ancestors, Created a clan of Echidna, led by Chief Pachacamac. Pachacamac's daughter, Tikal, befriended the species known as the chao, who protected the shrine of the Master Emerald. The Clan raided their Island, wanting to take the power of the Emeralds for themself. A mutated Chao, named Chaos, saw this, and defended his brethren by using the Emeralds to transform into Perfect Chaos, wiping out most of the Echidna, until Tikal sealed both herself, and Chaos, inside of the Master Emerald, to protect everyone. The remaining Echidna and Chao formed an alliance to protect the shrine from Evil forces, until there was only Knuckles left.
