[ chapter 2 – dandy hides away ] Dandy’s POV- I walked into the kitchen, but I didn’t feel hungry at all. My stomach felt tight, like someone tied a knot inside it. I grabbed a cupcake anyway and just… stared at it. Everyone else was laughing in the other room. Pebble barking. Astro softly chuckling.. Shelly talking about dinosaurs again. Sprout yelling something about cookies burning. Even Vee was arguing with someone. It all sounded so normal. But my head wasn’t normal. I kept hearing Delilah’s voice. “INJECT THEM.” “Or else.” My hands started shaking. I dropped the pink cupcake. It hit the floor with a soft plop. I didn’t want anyone to see me cry, so I walked into the tiny storage room next to the fridge. It was dark and cold, and the light switch didn’t work. I sat on the floor anyway. I covered my face with my hands. I tried not to cry loud, but a few sobs slipped out. I felt stupid. I felt scared. I felt… watched. The room felt wrong. Like the shadows were moving. Like the walls were breathing again, just like earlier. I wiped my eyes, but they kept filling up. “What do I do…?” I whispered. The shadows didn’t answer. They just sat there, l-like me.. Someone laughed from the other room. A happy laugh. A normal laugh. A fun laugh. It made everything feel worse. Why was everyone having fun while I was falling apart? I hugged my knees and tried to breathe. But the room felt smaller and tighter. Like it wanted me to stay there forever. A soft creak came from behind me. I froze. “…hello?” I whispered. Nothing. Just the dark. I squeezed my eyes shut. I didn’t want to look. I didn’t want to see anything standing there. Another creak. My heart jumped so hard it hurt. I wanted to run back to the others, but my legs wouldn’t move. I felt stuck. Like the floor was holding me down. Then— “DANDY?!” Astro’s voice. The door gently creaked open, and bright light filled the room. I gasped and scrambled up. Astro blinked at me. “Why are you in here, Dandy? We thought you got lost.” I wiped my face fast. “I—I’m fine. I was just… looking for a…uh- spoon. yeah, spoon..” “In the dark?” Astro tilted his head. I nodded, even though it was a terrible lie. I don’t think Astro believed me, but he didn’t push it. He just smiled softly. “Come back, okay? We saved you a spot…” I nodded again. But as I walked out, I felt something…weird.
