The Banished (Chapter Seven)

Chapter Seven I waited a few seconds for a reply, at first I thought that I was only going to get was silence as a response. But then the voice responded in a soft tone, however a bit stuttered, "it- it's complicated", I then heard what seemed to sound like a quiet sigh. I felt a little bit of regret looming over above me. "Sorry i- I shouldn't have asked you, since you seem uncomfortable by the question," I replied. That was when I heard the voice sound nervous and quickly replied, "No, it's fine, it's just..." The voice paused, to which I said, "It's just what?" The voice sighed again, "It's nothing, just forget about it." "Are you sur-?" I started to say, but the voice interrupted aggressively, "Just forget about it!" The yell the voice had startled me and made me jump. I am assuming that it felt me jolt because it immediately apologized, "Sorry, I didn't mean to reply aggressively, and I didn't mean to scare you." I was still shaking a little bit from the sudden shock, but I quickly calmed down and was no longer shaking. "It's fine, accidents happen." I realized that whoever this was had noticed that I was a little uneasy "everything okay?" But right before I could answer the voice then said "look there's the exit to this ravine". I looked ahead and managed to see some grassy area up ahead though it appeared to be night "it appears so", I replied rather quietly The pitch darkness from the ravine was no more as we continued to walk, the sky was now visible with little whit dots scattered across a very dark blue area, the time was night. I felt that we were no longer stepping on rough rock from the ravine but soft grass, it's quite nice I thought. I stop after walking what felt like the center of the grass clearing, "woah", I heard "the stars look pretty tonight" We then sat down, the hand on my shoulder was lifted off, I looked up at the twinkling night sky, the stars did look pretty tonight. I let out a sigh of relief that I hadn't realized I was holding in, I had been so nervous of what was to happen that I didn't know that I was holding it in. "everything okay?", I heard, I finally turned towards where the voice had been coming from "yes I am okay.... It's just that the people I've met out here so far haven't been very nice and have been quite antagonistic towards me". I heard her confused "out here? what do you mean?", I realized that the person I was talking to was not from the city... I had realized that while looking at her that the reason why I couldn't see her face that well in the dark was because she was concealing her face with a half ski mask. "you're not someone from the forest?", she questioned, I then slowly drew my katana to reveal a symbol engraved in it, it was the symbol of a dragon. I saw her eyes go wide, "wait your from the city?" I could tell by the tone of her voice that she was surprised, "Yeah" I sighed "well I was part of the city". She seemed confused, "what do you mean you were part of the city? what happened?" I let out another sigh, "It's a long story..."
