Umberpaw's eyes flew past them to see what his father looked like. He saw his dad - Ravenhunter - eyes dark and full of anger. He padded up to his son and screamed: "You were meant to be a warrior! You are supposed to patrol the border, not play with stupid leaves!” “I never thought that my son would be such a failure!" Each of his words like thunder as people started to look over. Sagepelt had run to try and stop the fight, but Ravenhunter had thrown the first hit. Claws unsheathed, his paws ran down Umberpaw's face and left blood on the wounds. Sealheart tackled Ravenhunter and dragged him towards the warrior den as he shouted, "I bet your sister would have been better than you!” Umberpaw flinched. "If only you had died instead!” His words faded as he was dragged into the warrior den, but the damage was done, and his harshness still lingered like a scent no cat could get rid of. Umberpaw padded over to the medicine cat den and stepped inside. The scent of herbs filled the air. catmint, poppy seeds, comfrey, marigold, Sparrowfall walked in after him and pointed him to his nest. As Sparrowfall rubbed a poultice of dock leaves on to the scratch. Umberpaw felt the initial sting from the poultice but still felt numb. When the patterned tom finished, he put a catchweed on top and Umberpaw padded to his nest and laid down. "Hey, Umberpaw, don't stress it, he'll cool off eventually. He's just not used to you being a medicine cat apprentice.” "Did he really mean what he said? That he wanted me to die?” "Oh… no no no it was just the heat of the moment. Things will blow over soon. I think he just misses Minnowkit and he is upset to see you grow without her.” Umberpaw hesitated. "Come, let me tell you about each herb. That'll cheer you up. Just wait until Ravenhunter sees how good of a medicine cat you are.” Umberpaw didn't move from his bed. “...Okay... we can start tomorrow. Get some sleep and clear your mind.” Umberpaw closed his eyes and tried his best to sleep. Though he looked asleep, he didn’t actually fall asleep until the moon rose.
