Hey guys! Sorry I’ve been so inactive, AP exams, upcoming concerts and Theatre have been stressing me out, plus I’m trying to get a job at Barnes and noble or a movie theatre or something so I’m trying to get stuff like that done. I’ve been drawing when I can to relieve the stress but I really don’t have time to do digital art or post as much right now. But summer is coming soon and I plan to go nuts with my digital art work in order to make a good portfolio for art school and commissions which means I’ll be able to make CoWI and crystals chapters more often! For now I might just do an art dump of some of my traditional sketches that I’ve made in the little time I’ve had. Thank you for your patience and support <3
On another note, I’ve been reading the newest wings of fire book and I have some opinions… (Slight spoilers for The Hybrid Prince, but I’m only halfway through) I don’t really like it, and by that I mean I don’t like it at all. Umber is an okay character, I don’t dislike him but the writing doesn’t really make it clear who he is, he’s kind of a blank slate and the story just happens TO him and I feel like it doesn’t get affected by him at all. (I feel like sora could have been the protagonist) And the story itself isn’t really doing it for me, the memory room just seems like a lazy way for the characters to discover what happened thousands of years ago, in moon rising, Moon had to talk to Darkstalker, an unreliable narrator with bits and pieces of the truth, it felt more like a mystery with dozens of questions that had insane implications for the future of everything. Hybrid prince answers questions so easily and casually they feel unimportant, it treats the facts that every tribe once lived together on one continent, skywings had animus dragons, and there’s tiny robot dragons that track people like it’s just another Thursday. Maybe I’m getting too ranty about the writing in a children’s fantasy novel but I could have SWORN the writing was better than this before. The dialogue is so often unfunny and unrealistic, Platypus is so annoying I’m sorry, she has the comedic value of a fart. It’s clear she was supposed to be like the passionate and loud character kinkajou was but kinkajou wasn’t a complete idiot. I don’t care about or remember almost any of the characters names because their purpose in the story is almost nonexistent. Mulberry was the only one I kind of liked because he spoke and behaved so naturally like characters would in earlier books, I was actually curious about getting to know him until he was PUSHED TO BE A SIDE CHARACTER. Everyone in this book sounds stupid oh my gosh, every line is forced to be comedic I can’t take anything in this book seriously when they’re LITERALLY TRAPPED ON A PRISON ISLAND and that’s coming from someone whose favorite character is Qibli, I LOVE Tuis sense of humor, I laughed out loud at times reading this series. I feel like I’ve been real harsh but it’s only because I love this series and hate to see it suffer, I have no hate to Tui at all I’m just a little disappointed right now. (After writing 3 whole arcs I understand its getting harder to form new ideas to further the story, it happens to everyone) I know she’s capable of more, she’s an amazing writer, and I WILL read the next book with hope because the first in the arc is never my favorite anyways so I’m confident it will get better. (If this book gets good in the second half LMK and I’ll request it from the library again) LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF THIS BOOK AM I ALONE?? I mean what do I know? if you liked the book, that’s great! WoF is still an amazing series and this doesn’t change that, this is just my personal opinion
