The setting of this drawing is inspired by a scene of Episode 4, when Gangle is trying on the new “happy mask” in Zooble’s room, in front of the mirror. Click space to see the side by side (I got lazy after all those triangles on the wall ;-;) This drawing obviously takes place before the horrors of Episode 8, but their hatred of themselves is still pretty depressing. Honestly, I think Zooble’s body dysmorphia is smth that a lot of people don’t talk about, but to me, it makes Zooble such a great character. They’re depicted as sarcastic, moody, and pretty no-nonsense (except with Gangle, bc then they’re a lot more compassionate and soft), but they have a lot of problems of their own, just like the rest of the main cast. This is highlighted in Episodes 3 and 6, but also a little in 7, when it shows them healing. When they give that speech to Gangle in Episode 6 of accepting herself, it wasn’t just for her. It applied to them as well. It only took Gangle to point it out for them to realize that. It’s even more sad when you realize that they tried opening up to Caine (rip the goat :[), but due to both him not understanding completely and their wording, they never really got to tell anyone. No one seems to care all that much, and Zooble never openly expresses their bodily hatred. But that’s what makes Zooble such a good character. Not only do they have a likable personality, but they’re relatable. To an extent, I do (unfortunately) understand the feeling of not liking the way you look. It’s demoralizing and humiliating, and it makes you so self-conscious after a while. Maybe I didn’t need this whole essay on Zooble’s psyche, but I just really like them as a character, and I hope this is explored more by Episode 9.
