We're gonna take a look at another Fox-branded studio, the genre label FOX Searchlight Pictures. Name History: Fox Searchlight Pictures (1991-2008) FOX Searchlight Pictures (2008-present) Short history: Fox Searchlight Pictures was founded in 1991 as the genre label of 20th Century Fox, then under News Corporation US. The label's main releases included independent, arthouse, horror and foreign films, although the company does release some comedy, action, romance and family films. In 1994, News Corporation US merged with New World Holdings, Inc. forming News Corp USA. The News Corporation byline and the 1991 logo remained until the next year. In 2001, AOL, Inc. would merge with News Corp USA forming AOL News Corp. By 2004, Fox Searchlight Pictures became a more broad genre film label, releasing titles not normally released by 20th Century Fox nor New World Pictures. AOL News Corp's name was altered in 2008 to News Corp AOL. That same year, FSP's name was slightly altered to FOX Searchlight Pictures, emphasizing the Fox part of its name. News Corp AOL later changed its name to Fox Media in 2013 as a way to emphasize its flagship assets which included 20th Century Fox, which owns FOX Searchlight Pictures.
