--Hi Guys! Welcome to my newest fanfiction: 'Making Waves: A Percabeth Fanfiction'. I hope ya'll enjoy it and please drop a heart and comment your favourite moment from this chapter! I'll reply to all comments when I post ch2 so you know when to look for it. Thanks to ChatGPT for the amazing cover art!. ALRIGHT here comes the story (Also, no it's not set in the PJO world- I don't like messing with canon things and their story is finished there so here's your favourite characters in a new situation!)-- *Percy's POV* Freedom. That's the only word that can begin to describe the feeling of the wind in your hair and salt spray on your face as you mount the curve of a perfect wave. Unfortunately, it can't last for ever and, right now, my mum is probably finding my bed empty again and getting in her car to come find me. I know the speech well: 'Percy school is important it determines your future. You can't spend your entire life at the beach. Come to school now and you can go later.' and so on, so forth. Then, because I don't like to upset my mum, I always follow her to the car where my bag and uniform are waiting, and get changed on the way as she drives me to school. But not today. Today I won't come in to the shore. Why? I've been kicked out of schools before, why should starting Delphi Academy be any different to the countless others? The answer: I'm not sure. Maybe getting kicked out of Merriwether was just the last straw. Maybe it's because Delphi is a boarding school. Maybe it's because I just don't want to do the whole 'Starting over' thing all over again. Regardless, I know one thing for sure: I don't want to go. My mum's car pulled up a few minutes later, just as I knew it would, and out got Sally Jackson herself, dressed in her 'Sweet on America' uniform. 'Come on in now Percy- you'll miss the train!' she calls to me. The train. If I can just keep away from mum until it's too late to get the train, I won't have to go. As if she read my mind, she replied 'If you miss the train, I'll have to drive you myself. Then I'll miss work and I might be out of a job and you won't be able to come home for Summer because I'll be working overtime and not able to look after you. Is that what you want.' She had a point, and I knew she wasn't bluffing- she can be quite determined when she puts her mind to something. After taking one last longing look at the horizon, I laid down on my board and paddled to shore. 'Your uniform is in the back, along with a towel. You can get changed either now or on the train, but I doubt you want to lug around a soggy wetsuit all day.' She told me as I laid my board across the boot of the car. 'I know you'll miss the ocean, but I'm sure you can find some time to go to one near Delphi on weekends.' I said nothing, knowing she'd found the answer. The answer to why Delphi High is different. The ocean is my only connection to my dad. I never knew him. Mum tells me she could never get him away from the ocean, that she was his second love, to the beach. He volunteered to help his friends take some cargo across the Bermuda triangle whilst mum was pregnant with me. He never came back. We say he's not dead, that he'll come back one day, but deep down, I think we both know the truth. As we drove along the freeway and I squeezed into the Delphi high uniform: Black pants, a white shirt, an orange tie and a black blazer trimmed with orange, I watched the horizon until the sea was out of view, blocked by the rows upon rows of cars. 'Bye dad.' I whispered under my breath 'I'll see you next Summer.' -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ As the train pulled up to the station, awaking me from my 6-hour snooze, I caught my first glimpse of Delphi high. I could just make out the tall clock tower (Why a school needs a clock tower, I DONT KNOW) a few blocks over. I stood up and gathered my bag so I could get a head start on the crowds when the train stopped. The moment the doors opened, I rushed out of them. I wish I could say I ran all the way to Delphi High out of sheer excitement, but it was more like an exhausted limp out of the sheer terror of the amount of people behind me. As I approached the gates, I saw a boy my own age with brown eyes and shaggy brown hair looking about as terrified as I was. Well, at least I wasn’t the only one. I filed into the hall with the rest of the students starting 11th grade. There was a section laid out specially for the new students on the far side of the room. Just what I wanted, for everyone to know that I’m the new kid. I’ll be asked why I came and then have to come up with some believable lie so no one can figure out I’ve been kicked out of 8 schools in 10 years. As I drew near, searching the crowd for a clear space to sit, I caught upon an empty space next to the shaggy-haired boy from before. ‘Hey,’ he said as I sat down ‘I’m Grover.’ ‘I’m Percy,’ I replied, offering my hand to shake for whatever reason. I considered withdrawing it and changing to something less
formal when, to my relief, he shook it without so much as a confused look. The assembly came and went with the normal boring procedures. I stood up to leave. ‘Wait,’ Grover said, ‘Which dorm are you in? I’m hoping to find someone to show me the way to mine.’ His face went pale at the prospect of navigating the grounds by himself. Luckily, I’d had lots of practice at first days. ‘Sure, I’ll come with to find yours first.’ ‘Oh thank you thank you!’ He hugged me, which was a little strange but I returned it nonetheless. We were startled out of it by someone clearing their throat behind us. I turned around to see a girl around my own age with grey eyes and long blonde hair. ‘Gosh she’s pretty,’ I thought. ‘Stop it Percy,’ I then scolded myself. ‘She’s probably way out of your league.’ ‘My name is Annabeth,’ she began, ‘and I’m one of the student leaders. I’ll be showing you around the grounds for your first week- until you get the hang of where everything is.’ Her voice is pretty too- stop it Percy! I couldn’t be thinking about girls when I needed to work on passing my classes. ‘Close your mouth.’ ‘Huh?’ I replied ‘Close your mouth,’ she repeated. ‘You’ll swallow a fly otherwise.’ I hastily shut my mouth, not having realised it was open. ‘Right then, follow me.’ She turned on her heel and gestured for Grover and I to follow. Well, here goes… — And that’s chapter one! I hope you enjoyed sorry it’s a little clunky I’m just getting the feel for it. I always struggle more with the first chapter or two. Anyways post a comment if you enjoyed and want more!— Chapter Two Link: [Coming Soon]
