Philippine Swamphenvideo is a very large rail, with a large triangular red bill and red frontal shield; stout legs and long, slender toes; legs and feet pale to dull red. Sexes alike in plumage. Following Taylor (1), adult has head, neck, and upper mantle bluish gray (may be tinged violet); mantle to uppertail coverts, and scapulars and tertials olive-chestnut to dull orange-rufous, with blue edges on mantle feathers. remiges brown to blackish brown, outer webs grayish blue to turquoise towards bases and brownish at tips; tail dark olive-brown. Upperwing coverts pale grayish blue (less tinged with violet than neck and underparts, especially in lesser coverts); some coverts tinged pale green; some median coverts olive-chestnut.
