OKAY. We're doing this :D My name is Bee and this is my first book review in...a while lol. Please remember that we (bookworms) are all very opinionated and have different feelings about different books -- these are just my personal thoughts about it! Enjoy~! Alright, so I'll just start by saying that this is one of my (if not first) favorite romance series I've read. It's a young-adult romance series, featuring 5 books with a novella in between the first book (Powerless) and the second book (Reckless). The MFC (main female character), Paedyn Gray is just an Ordinary girl (isn't that what they all say...) in a world of Elites. Ordinaries are seen as 'lower' or 'less-than' Elites because they don't have special abilities (pretty much just superpowers), and the abilities they might have are seen as weak or useless. I don't know who would think Healing is useless, but hey, if some Healer sees you in the street bleeding out, they ain't helping you. Moving on- Paedyn is a thief. Yep. A pickpocket. But hey, she does it because she has to survive. (Aladdin, anyone...?) She lives on the streets in a cozy little fort with her best friend (and only friend) Adena (Dena). They have a nice thing going -- Paedyn steals fabrics and other sewing supplies for Adena to make clothing etc, so that she can sell the clothes and make money for the both of them, that way Paedyn doesn't have to steal so much. Real quick, Adena is an absolute sweetheart. Like, if there were a human version of sunshine, she'd be it. (WHY DID SHE D-) Moving onnnn again- As I was saying, they had a nice little thing that worked for both of them. Until it didn't. Now I haven't done this in a while so I kind of completely forgot to add important details like the kingdoms name, the Baddie' prince's name, etc. Allow me to backtrack. Kingdom name: Illya Prince closest to the throne: Kitt Azer Prince not so close to the throne: Kai (Malakai) Azer Kai Azer is the Enforcer of Ilya, and Kitt Azer is the kingdoms golden boy. Handsome, respectful, kind, and able to make the rudest person respect him, Kitt is the perfect next-to-be-king. Kai is Ilya's Enforcer -- aka the 'Deliverer of Death'. He's pretty much in charge of sending people to another world. (trying to say this in code so this project doesn't get reported...lol) But hey, he's not all that bad. He's also insanely good-looking, charming as heck, and valuable to his father, the king. Why? Because he's special. (not that like...) Most Elites have ONE ability that they control -- Kai has them all. As long as someone is near him with that ability, he can control whatever it is. Cool, ya? :P Well -- let me break all the abilities up into a tiny chart really quick. WIELDER - A person able to control the power of any Elite, sometimes all at once. Kai is the only (known) Wielder in Ilya. DUAL ELEMENTAL - Possessed by Kitt Azer, granting control over two elements, specifically water and fire. AMPLIFIER - The ability to project one's voice with great force. BLAZER - Manipulation and control of flames. BLINK - The ability to teleport to any location within the users line of sight. BOOMER - Manipulation and control of plant life. BLUFF - The ability to detect when someone is lying. BRAWNY - Enhanced physical and mental strength. HYPER - Enhanced sensory perception. FATALS - Not very common, but individuals with the ability to harm or negate the powers of Elites. Alright, there you go! Handy little chart of Elite powers. As I was saying, Kai is Ilya's Enforcer due to the fact that he's their only Wielder, and his father (the king that sucks) needs him to protect Kitt, since he's the heir to the throne. It's actually really sad...Kitt and Kai are super close brothers, but very different in roles and what they do for the kingdom. Their father made Kitt the perfect, clean 'Golden Boy' so that he could take over the throne, and he left Kai with the 'dirty' work. Kai went through a lot of stuff, like having to kill for the first time at 13 or 14. (Side note: Kai's main job is to execute Ordinaries discreetly.) So there's Kai's trauma dump. ON TO PAEDYN. Her father was killed when she was 13, and she lived in the streets (aka the 'Slums') for 5 years, leading up to the events of this book. Well, she's minding her own business when she sees a Fatal using their power to force a man down. (Basically what happens when a Fatal uses their power is that the person they're using it on experiences sharp pain and can't move.) So she steps in and saves the man who, PLOT TWIST, was Kai Azer. Dun dun dunnn... My description is too long apparently so I'm going to have to leave you with that ._. I highly recommend this book, please try it out! :D ☆☆☆☆☆ Stars! (Edit: I might just record the review so I can make it longer- we'll see TvT)
