Chapter 1 My name is April I’m 15 years old, and my teammates names were Dylan and Meg I thought to myself. That seemed like the only thing about my life I knew. What was I doing here and who are my companions’ better question who am I. I knew that both Dylan and Meg were in my life, but what was I doing in the middle of the forest with no memories. I sat up to fully take in my surroundings, and try to rack my brain for answers, when Meg started to stir. “Where am I?” Meg pondered her red hair was all over her pale face and gray eyes. “heck if I knew” (which I clearly didn’t) I replied startling Meg, making her jump an estimated 5 feet in the air “WHO ARE Y- wait I know you… and Dylan.” she thundered. After a about five minutes of explaining to Meg, I have no idea where we are, Dylan began to wake too. His blonde hair was sprinkled with dirt, and his pale blue eyes were at first dazed (probably until he realized he had no memories). “Wha- where am I… who am I… my name is Dylan?” He muttered “expert analysis.” Meg noted. Poor guy looked so confused made me want to give him a hug (I will later deny I ever said that). “Your April- “Dylan started “Duh… you may continue” I joked ” Your Meg my past life girlfriend…” Dylan said, “your past life girlfriend.” Meg sneered “no. ugh you know what I mean.” “do I?” “Fine Meg my girlfriend.” “Now was that so hard?” Meg teased “What are we doing here is this like some sort of test because why do we have no memories, or at least I assume ya’ll have no memories?” Dylan pondered “you assume right.” Meg spoke for me and her. We all got up and started walking through the forest. The forest was full of pine, cedar, oak, and birch along with maple trees here and there. Moss was scattered through the forest in thick pillow like clumps. Herbs and wildflowers dotted the forest floor too. Something about a test kept nagging at my mind. A game I thought with 50 other kids… the pieces all come together. “What’s wrong you got a little pale there” Meg observed “I-I think I know what to do.” I stuttered. “Well.” Meg chided “We are in a free for all with 47 other kids. I don’t know why. All I know is we have to survive.” I shuttered There was silence for a while. Just the sounds of the leaves crunching under our feet, and the chorus of animal sounds. There was also the occasional whistle of wind in the leaves of trees. I kept trying to think of a reason we were put to die. What did we do…, and what happened to our memories? What kind of parents would let their child die? I’m also sure we are supposed to have four people in our group. “We could camp in that cave over there.” Dylan suggested, stirring me from my thoughts. “What if there’s a bear?” Meg teased “Well, we either kill the bear, or it kills us before the other competitors can.” I said, not meaning the harsh tone. We decided without a word to camp inside the cave for the night. As we where hiking up the hill to the cave my backpack seemed to get heaver with every step. A briar patch cut a hole in my baggy jeans, and managed to get a thorn inside my ankle. We finally made it to the cave. It turns out there was no bear. It wasn’t to cold out, so we didn’t start a fire. We also didn’t want to start a fire to signal the other contestants here. I took my backpack off, and used it as a pillow. I didn’t feel like going through it right now. Dylan volunteered to take the first watch. Of course, none of us objected. I remembered I had to take the thorn out of my ankle, once I felt it grab onto my jeans. Not a very pleasant feeling. I sat up, lifted my jeans, grabbed the thorn, and yanked it out. A small puddle of blood was pooling into the impression on my tanned skin left by the thorn. Then I laid back down and closed my eyes. My dreams were all patched, and confusing probably what happens once you have no idea who you even are. I sat up, and scanned the cave for any signs of danger. There was no danger. Dylan was still on watch; it was probably my turn. I walked to the mouth of the cave. “Go to sleep, I have it for now.” I told Dylan a little too harshly. The night was quiet, with the sounds of owls hooting, and crickets chirping. Meg came to take the last watch. I laid down not expecting sleep to come to me, but it did wrapping me in a deep blanket of nothingness.
