CONTEXT: The National Schism (1915–1922) was a profound political and social division in Greece between King Constantine I (favoring neutrality) and PM Eleftherios Venizelos (supporting the Allies in WWI). It split the country into two rival governments, culminated in the 1922 Asia Minor Disaster, and left a lasting, violent legacy of polarization. Later, a coup in March 25, 1924, during the downfall of the monarchy, the republicans took over, but however, instability came, on October 10, 1935, another coup happened returning the monarchy.
