Whether or not I have the motivation to color ALL of those patterns is still to be decided. --- Name: Orion Alpha-Betehl Nicknames: Beetle, Alph (although he usually just goes by Beetle) Pronouns/Gender: He/him, Agender/genderless (literal planet) Species: Planetary core Age: Orion is about two hundred thousand years old, but he's thirty-four thousand years into his current rebirth. He's functionally immortal Backstory: Beetle is a planetary core- basically, an astral body's spirit. He feels, ever so faintly, the effects that the people living on his planet have on him- large drills give him headaches, that kind of thing. Beetle's universe has a sort of perfect circle of life to prevent entropy and the heat death of the whole place. Planets are destroyed once they reach the end of their life cycle- about five to eight thousand years- so that they can be reborn from space dust, form new planets and new life, and start the cycle all over again. Beetle's been getting along quite well for most of his life. When he's young, he'll hang out with the residents living on him, watching civilizations develop. As he gets older, he gets tired (and often sick from overconsumption and pollution damaging the planet), so he just goes to sleep until the planet is destroyed and he gets to start it all over again. He loved his life, really. That was until the so-called Immortal Council (Beetle was never invited, what is this) decided that the eldritch being destroying planets had to be stopped. Beetle was asleep, and so was unable to realize anything was wrong until it was far too late. He ended up waking up from his nap twenty thousand years after he expected to be reborn- still in his home at the center of his planet, but horrifically sick. Beetle wasn't meant to still be here- he could feel the entropy building. If the planet wasn't destroyed, eventually enough energy would build up to violently explode it, creating a chain explosion as the wave of energy infected neighboring planets. He was far too unwell to really do anything except watch with growing panic, hoping that the Immortals would realize their mistake and let up whatever measures they were taking to keep him tethered to the planet until it was too late for everyone... My, what a mess. --- Details/Random Facts: - Beetle has social anxiety! He has to hype himself up to go talk to people when his world is still young. - His house in the center of the planet is quite comfortable- lots of pillows, lots of books collected from the current era of civilization. The space is there from the beginning of his rebirth, but he has to re-decorate it every time. - His favorite species are crabs, but he'd never admit it. Beetle thinks it's hilarious that so many different species on his planet constantly evolve into crab-like things, rebirth after rebirth. - Beetle keeps telling himself he'll never get another pet, as he'll outlive them all. He gives in every single time. He's had quite the variety of companions, and remembers each one fondly. - He doesn't have to eat, but enjoys sweet things from time to time. - Beetle's head is made of swirling vapors and energy. It's got some resistance in the middle, where it's densest, but his mane is quite fluid. He doesn't mind when people stick their hands in it (so long as they're clean); he thinks it's funny how enchanted creatures can be by the colors. - Beetle gets mistaken for a deity quite often. He realized a while ago that it had a good deal to do with the accessories he wears- for some reason, when he leaves the tail-shawl and gold necklace at home, people treat him as a normal (but somewhat strange) guy. - Beetle gets hiccups very rarely. This is a good thing, because for some reason, hiccups cause tremors on his planet. Everything else that affects him physically takes a LOT to actually change the status of his planet- a cold would leave it unchanged, but lopping off his arm would cause massive tsunamis, for example. - Beetle CAN regenerate and has a quick self-healing ability. That works out just fine, because Beetle is not a fan of being hurt or in pain. - Beetle worked quite hard to give himself emote-signals. Creatures found him incredibly hard to read with no facial features, so he figured out a way to summon eyebrows, whiskers, and ears for himself to put them more at ease. His favorite of these to use are the eyebrows. - Beetle's proper name is Orion Alpha - Betehl, inspired by Betelgeuse's official name Alpha Oronis! - His nebula mane covers his dark spot/face when he's stressed :0
