❝Ring around the rosey❞ Kiteinferno was the first to go. One of the strongest warriors in the clan, her own nephew, taken down by a fierce wolf. A fierce flame snuffed out without warning. Victoryvalor had thought they were safe from all those dangers so far out in the unknown territories. Far enough that not even wolves could find them. She should have known it was dangerous out where cats didn’t know. Dread began to grow, maybe this was an awful idea after all? ❝Pockets full of posey❞ Cicadachirp was the next to lose their life. Victoryvalor had never been fond of FlurryClan, not even when Euphoriastar had become leader. But she didn’t deserve to die so far away from everything the four—now three—of them knew. It was a wolf again. Her and Cicadiachirp had decided to go after it, to avenge the FlurryClan warrior’s fallen clanmates and Kiteinferno. Cicadiachirp was with them now, at least she could find comfort in that. ❝Ashes, Ashes❞ Badgergaze blamed her for their deaths. She blamed herself anyways, no encouragement needed from the MossClan tom. Regardless of how he felt about her, how he felt about her contributions to Kiteinferno’s and Cicadiachirp’s deaths, they were the only two cats left. They would work together, right? Just to make it back alive? Ha. Cats do stupid things because of anger. ❝They all fall down.❞ Her legs shook as she left the fields filled with blue flowers, the fields that those odd cats had driven them from. What kind of a warrior was she? What kind of warrior couldn’t save the cats she had meant to protect? Valor. That was part of her name. Great courage in the face of danger. But she didn’t even have enough courage to save any of them. Her claws dug into the dirt as she walked, trying to keep her swaying body steady. She was a failure. Not victorious. Not full of valor. The last remaining trace of a lost exploration party. A vestige. That was who she was now. Victoryvestige. Because valor was not a name she deserved to keep, not when cats had died because of her.
