oopssss sorry its so close to the deadline I spent a lot of time writing this over the month inbetween classwork __ A little bit about you, including how long you've been a member, and your timezone - [ Optional ] - your age/age range, a general time you'd be online with your timezone I’m 18 as of February this year. I can be on at all times essentially, as the Hive isn’t blocked by my school. I would only be able to check in during school if I have free time (once every hour maybe?) but can stay up as late, typically up to midnight MST, sometimes later. I have school and am an adult but I still find time to come online at least once daily. - Why you would be a good manager I think my experience and time spent (since 2020) lends itself to my possible manager credibility. I know how the studio operates, the opinions of the people there, and just how things tend to flow. I’ve had interactions with people on different spectrums of the users on this platform and have seen all sorts of different viewpoints. This way, I can keep people’s perspective in mind when it comes to disagreements. I know what it’s like to be the member who feels lonely and left out, the one that feels the need to be rude to members and disrespect the rules, and the one now who respects the studio for what it stands for and how it can still improve today. - Downsides to you being a manager Maybe I’m a bit out of touch? I do have the perspective of members younger than me, though, because I’ve been around since I was 12. I used to take long breaks from the platform and forget to visit the studio, but I check more often now. I also used to post what bordered on vents a lot from when I was younger and felt isolated from the greater community, but now I know that behavior isn’t appropriate and I have been working on my mental health and putting more thought into the messages I send. - Unique things you could bring to the position Every time I’ve thought about being manager, I’ve always wanted to bring fun things to the table. I want to add things that help everyone feel involved. Multiple times over the years, I felt left out or irrelevant compared to my peers. I don’t want that to happen to anyone else, so I want to be able to make events that aren’t too daunting and help people make connections. I’m aware some exist, like the gift exchange that happens yearly and the one that introduces two members, but I think a variety of topics and ideas will bring interest from more people. I could also bring in a viewpoint from other members the managers currently on the team may not have considered, like people currently under rule 6 who think the rule has been falsely applied or people who disagree with certain protocols or behavior the hive exhibits. - What you would improve about the Gaehive if you were promoted Because of the wide variety of people I’ve met, I want to personally hold some sort of hand in rule 6. I want to make sure that people who have hurt others get the distance from the hive they need and take the punishment seriously. I’m aware that the way the site operates that it makes it hard to do this, because you cannot block someone or prevent them from entering the studio other than keeping track of who the rule applies to. You also cannot explicitly state the list because of the site’s rules, and can essentially only remind people who try to talk to the user in question once they say something. I also want to hear from people who think they’ve been falsely applied so nobody feels like anything unfair is happening, but I also don't want to be lenient. I want to enforce it when someone really deserves to be distant from the studio to keep everyone safe. I also think we should keep in member’s safety with the number of offsite chatrooms there are as well. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with this, but I’ve seen myself that some members can be judgemental or say things badly representative of the hive. I believe our space deserves a good reputation, which can be hard to do with members that cause problems and with the sheer size of the hive. I also want to approach issues with tact. I understand multiple point of views and don’t like to see people attacking other users over disagreements. For example, people instantly arguing with someone who made an unrelated vent comment without making sure they are also okay, or vagueposting and having large arguments over a rule instead of having a respectful debate (which I wouldn’t mind trying to help facilitate if they can remain safe for the platform and civil).
(cont) - What you think being a manager of the gaehive entails (such as responsibilities and such) Being a manager is more than just being a popular member everyone likes. It has to do with making sure everyone is behaving and nothing rulebreaking is happening. There’s also the whole aspect of possibly being disliked for stepping in and correcting people and having to ignore that to uphold the safety of the Hive. Responsibilities include pointing out rule breaking behaviors, looking out for people marked as trolls and if they are evading. You have to make sure these people are true to their word and make the correct judgements on their behavior. Handling the studio when spam or something distressing is happening and being able to stay on top closing the comments and keeping tabs on the timeouts no matter what your schedule may be asking for is also important. It can be a frustrating position to take with how different studio members respond to different things and knowing you need to be respectful regardless and keep everyone’s opinions in mind. You also need to not let your biases or grudges show when it comes to some incidents or drama that may be caused. - Two or more other members who you recommend we promote accompanied by why they would be a good manager and a specific example of a time they improved the studio, whether big or small [ this means to recommend other people, not to get others's recommendations ] I recommend @pinkaereis and @MADDY_Lolha, they both have well thought out applications and act maturely and respectfully every time we have interacted. I’ve also known of them on the hive for a while and have always thought positively of them both and think they would be a good fit.
