There's this index that estimates the diversity of species in an ecosystem, so made a quick visual. Every colored box represents a different species. The width of a box is what fraction of the total population in the ecosystem are members of that species, with 100% being as wide as the screen (In that case, the box would have 0 height. A box that's 1/e the width of that would have a fixed amount more height). The height of a box is how much diversity every member of that species provides. The total area of all the boxes combined estimates how diverse the ecosystem is. Edit: I'll print 3 rows of boxes on the same screen to show all the "ecosystems" at once. The data I used is the number of different types of cars in a the school parking lot, collected on a certain day. The 1st is the students log, the 2nd is the teachers' and the 3rd is combined.
