The news hit like a shockwave. All of FlurryClan, dead. Gone. Jinx stared blankly at her alters, eyes shining with tears. Thorn was sobbing uncontrollably, Flower doing her best to comfort him. The Storyteller was telling stories of the cats they had lost. Brooke was staring off into space, looming over all of them. Even Gleestar, who never was serious, who bullied kits for fun, was silent. "Who's fronting?" Brooke whispered, but no one answered. Jinx stepped forward. E had to do something. "Guys." Chaos said. All eyes on her. No turning back now. "Our family is gone." Flower gave her a sharp look as Thorn's sobs increased in volume. "Your family, Jinx. Yours and Thorn's." "No!" Jinx snapped, eyes blazing. "Look around you, Flo. Glee doesn't even have something snarky to say. Brooke is on the verge of deforming, and Story is doing what they do best. Keeping their memories alive." The silver fox tipped Story's head. "Thank you, J." Jinx continued, hot, angry, grief-stricken tears falling faster now. "Our siblings are gone. All of them." She shook her head. "Even if you didn't know them as well as we did, that doesn't erase the fact that our entire clan is gone." Jinx walked over to Thorn, shielding the calico cat with eir wings. "We're all we have left anymore, Stars." Their collective name never had been decided on, though early on, Flower had suggested they be called Stars, and the system be called Petals of Stars. "We're all we have left." She repeated, louder this time. "That's not true for you." Glee snapped, finally coming out of his stupor. "You have that idiot mate of yours following you around all the time." Jinx's face flushed. "She's not an idiot!" She yelled, blasting fire at Glee. Of course, it didn't do anything. As far as they knew, nothing could hurt Gleestar, not in the headspace, at least. "Jinx!" Flower yelled, glaring at her. "Stop! You know Glee doesn't mean it." She did know. She /did/. But stars, it felt good to lash out sometimes. "I just..." Her rage evaporated as quickly as it had materialized. "I'm scared." E said, curling around Thorn. "I wish I knew what to do." "Um, guys?" It was Brooke. "May I, once again, point out that we are all here and therefore /not fronting/?" Jinx paused. "Brooke." She said. "Go find out." "That won't be necessary." A voice said, silky and smooth. "The body's asleep, no thanks to you." A figure stepped out of the shadows. And Jinx gasped, covering Thorn's eyes with her paws. Because he could /not/ see this. The figure before them was tall. And despite the fact that Jinx was the tallest among them, looking at this new figure, she felt tiny again. Because it was Mom. But so, so, so, /wrong/. Her eyes glowed red, and she seemed to radiate malice from the inside out. "I'm Rose." She said. "And it seems you need my help."
