this is based on how much i already know sooo... my theriotype may change. ;3 byyyee!! info abt my theriotype Fishing cats (Prionailurus viverrinus) are specialized, medium-sized wild cats found in South and Southeast Asia, known for their exceptional swimming abilities and aquatic hunting techniques. Roughly twice the size of a domestic cat, they inhabit wetlands and mangroves, diving underwater to catch fish and even attacking prey from below. (info gotten from google) Facts About Fishing Cats Aquatic Experts: They have partially webbed front paws that help them navigate muddy areas and act like paddles, allowing them to swim long distances and dive for fish. Hunting Technique: They hunt by tapping the surface of the water with their paws to mimic insects, luring fish to the surface. They have even been observed diving underwater to catch birds. Physical Features: They have a stocky, robust body (5-16 kg) with a short, thick tail. Their coat is brownish-gray with olive-colored spots that run in longitudinal rows. Non-Retractable Claws: Unlike most cats, their claws do not fully retract, which likely helps them grab slippery fish. Habitat and Diet: They are strongly tied to wetlands, rivers, and mangrove swamps. While fish make up three-quarters of their diet, they also consume birds, rodents, mollusks, and reptiles. Nocturnal and Solitary: Primarily active at night, they are solitary creatures that communicate through vocalizations like "chittering" during courtship. Conservation Status: The species is listed as Endangered by the IUCN due to habitat loss from wetland destruction, pollution, and overfishing.
