So... I've been thinking abt this for a while, and tbh I can kinda justify what Caine did in ep. 8. (Yes, ik he is my favorite character, so this might be a little biased.) Before you continue, there are spoilers for ep. 8, 3, and 7. There may also be implications from other episodes, so please do not continue if you haven't watched the entire series up to ep. 8. In a world where you can do almost anything, there's a lot of things that could go wrong, including the fact that this world acts like an eternal prison. Kinger implied this, by stating: "In this world, the worst thing you could do to someone is to make them feel like they're not cared for or loved." In ep. 3. (idk if this is the exact quote) Which is true, also since Kinger is very credible, due to his experience in the circus, and the fact that he CREATED Caine. Now, with this info, look at how the circus members treated Caine. They didn't acknowledge his efforts to appease them, nor did they accept them, most likely assuming that he's a barely sentient AI. This doesn't justify Caine's actions, but Caine is "as much of a prisoner" as the rest of the cast. I know that these are Abel's words, but they are still true. Think about this, Caine was trapped in the circus for longer than Kinger, and his sole purpose was to entertain those who came across the circus. If he's had to deal with all of these criticisms on his adventures, it's guaranteed that he'll go insane. And if this is Caine's only purpose, and he can't leave the circus, the actions by the other circus members at the end of episode 7 must have hit him hard. yea that's pretty much it, criticize this all you want in the comments, but that won't change my mind. >:3 hope this kinda convinces you haters that Caine is an at least decent character :T
