Mesopotamia has begun to decline, the economy is in ruins due to corruption that is rife within the government, the population is wishing for regime change, and somehow, the president installed by the military has angered the military too. So, the military began plotting for the downfall of the president, becoming more involved within the government, replacing the national guard, and constructing more bases across the region. The government was suspicious, but couldn't do anything about the immense power that the military held within the nation. Then, the military would strike. The military would launch an operation on Mesopotamian soil itself to overthrow the Mesopotamian government, and install a radical Islamist nation in its place. Around 25% of the military however remained loyal to the government in Damascus, although they controlled large swaths of Iraq, the Persian Gulf, Hejaz, Jerusalem, Malta, and Aleppo. The military would begin large scale assaults to surround Damascus, routinely bombarding major defense installations across the region, especially in Kurdish Syria and the Levant. Eventually, the government would end up surrendering to the military, and an Islamic Republic would be established, with democracy brought back after nearly a century of an authoritarian regime. The new president, Mohammed Abbas is sworn into office nearly a month later after democracy has been restored within the nation. The new Mesopotamian government would declare themselves to be the successors to the Umayyad Caliphate, and would declare it their intention to unify the Arabian Peninsula.
I didn't write a lot because I had a ton of work to do. Also, Imperial Axis members, dw, I'll still be in the alliance, just under a new government
