For over 100 years, these Arctic islands have been a part of the Dominion. Like all Dominion territory, it was turned into a network of underground tunnels, railways, cities, and 3 major star-ports. The islands were lost however, in the treaty of Nest after WW7, just about 10 years ago. Thus, being abandoned, the Dominion infrastructure withered. Officially, the Phoenix Council claims this was an accident, and that its units overshot in there invasion of Dene, and used these old tunnel networks to seize the islands, believing they were still in Dene. But secretly, Kosan personally asked the Continental army to invade the islands, to secure the Star-Ports, so that more resources can flow between earth and her fleets. To both more easily transfer refugees, drop off supplies, and aid Olivia's march on the capital itself. Which is why despite the claims this was an accident, and pleas of the Texan government, small units are stationed to stay on the islands. The old infrastructure is not only restored, but upgraded. Showing they are digging in to stay. And the council has requested international recognition of the islands being their's from the Imperial Axis. The council however quietly slips a deal to the Texans. Offering a supply of raw resources from its space empire for 5 years, if they quietly look the other way.... In other news, the navy hosts a triumphant event, as it launches several under-ice submarines from a restored channel tunnel in the abandoned city of Omz, which was the birthplace of the Dominion navy several centuries ago.
