The Shield You Don’t Need --------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey, I know you’ve been carrying something heavy. Maybe it’s the stress of a test you didn’t study for, Or the feeling that everyone else has it figured out, While you’re just trying to keep your head above water. It feels like you have to wear armor all the time, Like if you let your guard down for one second, Everything is going to fall apart. I get it. The world can be loud. People can be mean. Mistakes can feel like the end of the world. So you tighten your fists. You hold your breath. You tell yourself, “I have to be tough. I have to be ready.” But here’s the thing I want you to hear: That armor is heavy. And it’s lonely. What if, just for a minute, you tried something scary? What if you didn’t brace for the hit? What if you took a deep breath, And let your hands unclench, And just said, “Okay, I’m here. I’m ready to try.” Yeah, it’s terrifying. Yeah, things might still go wrong. But there’s a weird kind of power in being open. When you greet the world with open arms, You’re not saying, “I won’t get hurt.” You’re saying, “I’m brave enough to try anyway.” It’s like walking into a room where you don’t know anyone. Your heart is pounding. You want to hide. But then you smile. And suddenly, someone smiles back. And the room doesn’t feel so big anymore. The challenges aren’t going to disappear. The hard days are still coming. But you don’t have to face them with a shield. You can face them with your heart. So take a breath. Drop the weight. Look at the world, not with fear, but with hope. Because you’re stronger than you think. And the world is waiting for you to show up I know what it’s like to feel that tightness in your chest. You know the one. It’s that moment right before you walk into a room, Or right before you have to speak up in class, And your brain screams, “Don’t say anything. Don’t make a mistake. Just blend in.” I get it. I don’t share my emotions very well either. I’ve built a glass wall around my heart. It’s clear, so people can see me, But they can’t actually "reach" me. It’s safe behind the glass. Nothing can hurt me if I don’t let them touch. But here is the thing I’m learning, and I’m telling you because I wish someone told me sooner: The glass wall is also a cage. When you hide your stress, the stress doesn’t go away. It just sits there, heavy and hot, pressing against the inside of your ribs. When you hide your fear, you tell yourself you’re strong, But really, you’re just lonely in your own skin. So, here is the “but”. "But" what if you cracked the glass? Just a tiny piece. You don’t have to throw the whole wall down today. You don’t have to tell everyone your deepest secrets right now. But what if you let one feeling out? What if you let yourself say, “I’m actually really worried about this,” or “I’m not doing okay.” It feels terrifying. It feels like standing on the edge of a cliff. But then? Then you realize the air feels lighter. You realize that when you show a little bit of your real self, People don’t run away. They lean in. They say, “Me too.” “I feel that way sometimes.” “You’re not alone.” Taking down some of the wall doesn’t mean you have to be perfect. It means you’re brave enough to be a little vulnerable. It means you trust that the world is safer than you think. So, take a breath. Let your hands unclench. Let the glass crack just a little bit more. You don’t have to hide anymore. Greet it with open arms. Even the messy, scared, stressed-out parts of you. They are enough. And they are worthy of love.
Everything by Khloe Song: Open Arms - Epic Lyrics: [POLITES] You can relax, my friend [ODYSSEUS] Huh? [POLITES] I can tell you're getting nervous So do yourself a service And try to relax my friend [ODYSSEUS] I'm fine, Polites [POLITES] Think of all that we have been through We'll survive what we get into I know that you're tired of the war and bloodshed Tell me, is this how we're supposed to live? Look at how you grip your sword, enough said Why should we take when we could give? You could show a person that you trust them When you stop and lower your guard Here we have a chance for some adjustment Give it a try, it's not that hard I'm telling you This life is amazing when you greet it with open arms Whatever we face, we'll be fine if we're leading from the heart No matter the place, we can light up the world Here's how to start: Greet the world with open arms Greet the world with open arms [LOTUS EATERS] Welcome [ODYSSEUS] Stay back [LOTUS EATERS] Stay back [POLITES] My friend, greet the world with open arms [ODYSSEUS] We're only here for food [LOTUS EATERS] Food [ODYSSEUS] Six hundred friends are waiting for us to show our faces [LOTUS EATERS] Food [ODYSSEUS] Stay back, I'm warning you [LOTUS EATERS] Food (Num num num) [ODYSSEUS] If we don't get back safely, my men will turn this place into blazes [LOTUS EATERS] Here you go [POLITES] See? This life is amazing when you greet it with open arms Whatever we face, we'll be fine if we're leading from the heart No matter the place, we can light up the world Here's how to start: Greet the world with open arms Greet the world with open arms [ODYSSEUS] My friend, I wish that I could say that I agree But look at the way this fruit is glowing and filled with glowing seeds It took me a while to notice just what kind of fruit they eat It's a lotus, it controls your mind and never lets you free That's what we'd get with open arms [POLITES] Lotus eaters, I'd like to show my friend that kindness is brave Could you tell me where there's other food to eat? [LOTUS EATERS] The cave (Scary cave) [POLITES] A cave! You're saying there's a cave where we could feast? And where do we sail to find this food-filled cave? [LOTUS EATERS] East (That way) [POLITES] Thank you! [LOTUS EATERS] Welcome [POLITES] This life is amazing when you greet it with open arms I see in your face, there is so much guilt inside your heart So why not replace it and light up the world Here's how to start: Greet the world with open arms Greet the world with open arms [ODYSSEUS] Greet the world with open arms [POLITES] You can relax, my friend
