The EMD SD70M-2 Is A 4,300-Horsepower, C-C Diesel-Electric Locomotive Introduced In 2005, Designed As A DC-Traction Counterpart To The SD70ACe To Meet EPA Tier II Regulations. A Total of 331 Units Were Built, Primarily For Canadian National (190) And Norfolk Southern (130), With Features Including The 16-Cylinder 710G3C-T2 Engine And Electronically Controlled Pneumatic (ECP) Braking Options. Norfolk Southern (NS) Purchased A Total Of 130 EMD SD70M-2 Locomotives In Two Main Orders, With Deliveries Occurring Between 2005 And 2006. The Units Were Numbered 2649–2778 And Were Delivered In Two Distinct Batches: The First Batch (52 Units) 2649-2700 In Late 2005 And The Second (78 units) 2701-2778 In Early 2006. NS Would Retire 126 SD70M-2's Selling Many To Progress Rail In 2020-2021 Four Would Be Sold To New York Susquehanna & Western (NYS&W) In Late 2020 NS Would Retain 46 SD70M-2's 30 Being Temporarily Reactivated And Returned For Service Due To A Power Shortage. Later 2721 And Another 96 Units Were Slated To Be Rebuilt Into A New EMD Model Called The SD70ICC. (Pseudo History) In August Of 2019 Deltrixiona Railroad (Delta Rails) (DTXR) Would Purchase The 20 EX NS SD70M-2's And Patch Them But Keeping The Units Original Numbers. By Late October Of 2019 After Working 1 Month On DTXR The Units Would Be Slated For Rebuilding As Well As Older EX CN SD70M-2's As These Units Were Still Tier 2 EPA Standard And DTXR Wanted To Upgrade The Units To Tier 4 So In February Of 2020 DTXR Would Have These Units Rebuilt Into A DTXR Exclusive Model The EMD SD70ACM-2 (Special Duty Model 70 Modified Alternating Current-2) These Units Would Be Given The DTXR Classification Of CM70AC-2 (Converted Modified Model 70 Alternating Current-2) Where They Were Rebuilt: The SD70M-2's Would Be Rebuilt At Deltrixiona's Chicago Shops Where DTXR's 2700, 2701, 2702 And 2703 Would Be The First To Be Rebuilt 2704-2770, 2771-2815+ Would Later Join Them. In Total 270 CM70AC-2's Would Be Built By February Of 2026 The 4,800 Horsepower Units Would Then Later Be Seen On DTXR's Illinois Subdivision Which Runs Through Chicago, Watseka, And Kankakee Illinois Hauling High-Speed Intermodal Consists, Grain Hopper Consists, Auto-Part Consists, And Mixed Freight Consists. They Would Also Be Seen On DTXR's Ontario Subdivision Which Runs Through Winnipeg, Montreal, And Toronto Canada These Units Were Even Seen Leading Or Trailing As Foreign Power On Other Railroad's Like CSX, Union Pacific, Their Predecessor Railroad Canadian National, Burlington Northern Santa Fe, And Their Other Predecessor Railroad Norfolk Southern. These Units Would Be Railfan Favorites Since The Units Kept Their Original EMD 12-710G3C Engines, But Were Upgraded From The 4,000, And 4,300 Horsepower To 4,800 Horsepower And Were Upgraded With Tier 4 Modifications All While Still Retaining Its Original Sound And Shape These Units Would Also Have Alternating Current Traction Essentially They Were DTXR's Version Of The SD70ACe. DTXR Is Also Having 12 Units 2700-2711 Painted Into Heritage Paint At The DTXR's Chicago Shops. 2710 Is The Twelfth And Final Heritage Unit Out Of The Paint Shops It Was An EX Canadian National That DTXR Rebuilt And Repainted In A Gleaming Baltimore & Ohio Blue And Gold That Honors Baltimore & Ohio
