[April 28-30th, 2026] In the forums, posts and replies get formatted with BBCode, here’s a neat little tutorial on that below: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/847466/. When I fist saw that stickied topic, there was an example of using hex codes to change the color of text, which got me thinking of ASCII art, which led me to wonder, is it possible to generate an entire image using this one tag? I’ve been tinkering with this idea for a while now, and I think it might actually be finished! Currently supports 3 and 6 hex digits for color, variable resolution, and an optimized/unoptimized bbcode version. May trip the filter a little. Did some quick math, and if you're using a 53-character string per line, you can fit about 3773 lines before the forum cuts you off. If you're using a 63-character string (that’s including a small BBCode tag), you’re looking at around 2891 lines. This is really handy for displaying multiple images in a single post (using the Full Block unicode character, U+2588). For context, the reference image used 48 lines, so you can pack a truckload in there without breaking anything. Technically, it does bypass image hosting restrictions, and can be used to spam inappropriate images everywhere (a nightmare for moderators), which is why project isn’t going to be released to the public. But the raw potential of this is pretty cool, ngl :D Tap to move to next slide. 1.
