Opalpaw stepped out of the elders' den, groaning. Noxiousbloom was such a nuisance. Sometimes it seemed like he was only trying to make her life worse. A cat bounded out of the apprentice's den towards her. "Opalpaw! Hi!" He was dandelion yellow with navy blue splotches. "Hi, Puddlepaw," Opalpaw said, smiling. "How did your training go today?" "Great!" Puddlepaw answered, grinning back. "Batterwind taught me how to fight foxes!" He was older than Opalpaw, but only by a moon, so the two of them were good friends. "That's awesome! I can't wait until I learn that!" she said. "Are Sapphirepaw and Diamondpaw back yet?" He frowned. "Not yet. They weren't training with us. It's a little concerning that they aren't back yet. It's getting dark. "It's probably fine," Opalpaw said reassuringly. "They probably just went on border patrol, or something. I'm sure they're on their way back to camp right now." They padded into the apprentice's den. Opalpaw smiled. The soft moss of her nest felt amazing after a hard day of training. She fell asleep quickly. It felt like she had only just closed her eyes when she woke to Puddlepaw shaking her shoulder. "Opalpaw, wake up! Hurry!" She blinked groggily and stretched. "What's wrong?" His eyes filled with tears. "Your sisters are missing!" Opalpaw stared blankly at Puddlepaw. Diamondpaw and Sapphirepaw - her only two sisters were missing. "Do we know if they left any traces?" Opalpaw asked, trying to keep her voice level. "According to the deputy, Flurrystorm, their scents ended at the frozen river but there was no sign of them falling into the ice!" Opalpaw considered the facts. Maybe they walked across the ice? But no...their scent ended at the river. "I'm going to search for them." ==================================== Opalpaw sniffed the air. She heard a large thump behind her and whipped around. Puddlepaw had slipped on the frozen river. She allowed him to help him search. "Try not to break the ice," Opalpaw whispered. "we don't want to fall in." Puddlepaw nodded and padded carefully across. Now they were on the Spring clan border which magically got warmer. A cool breeze blew across their faces. But Opalpaw suspected something was wrong... she turned back and.... "Puddlepaw? Where are you?" And in his place was a ghostly figure. Staring at her blankly. He opened his mouth. Then all went black.
