We have been told Scratch can only support .mp3 and .wav files, but is this really the case? I have decided to run a test to see if some files are actually supported on Scratch. Commands: Lossy M - P - 3 to listen to the .mp3 file A - A - C to listen to the .aac file O - G - G to listen to the .ogg file O - P - U - S to listen to the .opus file Lossless W - A - V to listen to the .wav file F - L - A - C to listen to the .flac file .wma, .aiff, and .alac do not appear to be supported
https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/883605/ If you do not believe that these are different files, please run the following steps: 1. Download the project 2. Locate the .sb3 file and rename it as .zip 3. Open the .zip file and the audio files should be inside 4. Go to https://filext.com/online-file-viewer.html or https://www.checkfiletype.com/ 5. Test the different files that are in there! If it looks like the files are only .mp3 and .wav, it is because I have renamed them to bypass Scratch's preliminary checks on audio files. – I added the .mp3 extension to all lossy codecs. – I added the .wav extension to all lossless codecs. The original audio was accessed on 05/11/2026 from: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Purcell_Fantazia_upon_One_Note.wav Audio file converters here: https://cloudconvert.com/ https://converthub.com/ https://convertio.co/audio-converter/ https://www.freeconvert.com/audio-converter I am sure you can find more. I am using a macOS Ventura v13.3. If your device cannot run a file, please reach out.
