For Punos's 10-year anniversary in 1998, they wanted to create a sportscar to compete with Nissan's R33 GT-R, and later, their BNR34 GT-R. They reached out to German automakers like RBS and BMW to help form a new all-wheel drive, high-output sports car for the masses and to become one of the first sports cars to enter the Indian market. This resulted in the Fuerza, Spanish for "power," which lived up to further than its name. Early-model Fuerza cars like this one came with a 2.5L turbocharged inline 6 engine that pushed out what was claimed to be 276 horsepower to comply with the Gentleman's Act in Japan, assuring competition with Nissan. Fuerza also came with a German-refined all-wheel drive system that also included 4-wheel steering and an early form of torque vectoring, making these cars as agile and tech-savvy as they were unique to foreign markets such as India and Mexico. The Fuerza would cement itself into car culture and become a highly-renowned luxury coupe in India.
