ALICE IN WONDERLAND SYNDROME Alice in Wonderland Syndrome is a condition that disrupts how the brain processes sensory input. It changes how you see the size of yourself, the things and people around you, or both. People with AIWS may have trouble correctly observing the proportions of their body, which may feel too big or too small. They may feel disconnected from the world around them (derealization) or disconnected from their own body (depersonalization), or a disruption in their sense of time. Other things, such as objects and others around them, might appear in different sizes than they truly are or may appear distorted. It tends to be a temporary disorder, with two-thirds of cases happening in people under eighteen. It is unknown why AIWS happens, but some previously considered causes are migraines, infections, strokes and/or seizures, medications, tumors, mental health conditions, and brain diseases. VOCAL CORD DYSFUNCTION Typically, when one inhales, their vocal cords open to allow air to pass through. With vocal cords dysfunction, the two vocal cords do not behave correctly, making it difficult to breathe. Some symptoms of VCD are difficulty breathing, clearing your throat, having a feeling of suffocation and tightness in your throat as well as more raspy breaths and a hoarse, raspier voice than average. While there is no known cause, some causes have been theorized, including acid reflux, strong emotions, exercise, and inhaled irritants. It may cause difficulty breathing, but it is not truly life-threatening.
