Thorn ran through the forest, his paws pounding the forest floor. Where did Canopy go? Did the corruption catch her?! His breath puffed in the cool leaves-falling season air. He whipped around. The shadows of the forest curled menacingly toward him like claws waiting to grab him up. “CANOPY!” He yelled into the forest. “Geez, you’re gonna wake the entire continent.” A voice said. His ears flattened against his skull, but immediately perk up when Canopy steps out of the shadows. Her stone-gray fur is covered with leaves and thorns. Her golden eyes were glittering with amusement. “Are you okay?” Thorn demanded. “You didn’t get bitten, did you?!” “No, relax. And those wolves aren’t going anywhere.” Her tail swished in the fallen leaves. His eyes widened. “You didn’t-! That’s dangerous?” “What is?” She asked. “You used your ability, didn’t you!? That’s dangerous when you’re expecting!” She flinched slightly. “Well, they were gaining on you, and I had the element of surprise!” “I don’t want you hurt!” “I was trying to save you!” She snapped back. “What, do you want me to watch you die?!” He recoiled back, and let out a sigh. “Sorry.” Thorn murmured. “I’m just worried.” “Well, obviously.” She teased. “Come on, we’ll be safe once we make it out of the forest.” She took the lead, her gray fur lit by the milky-glow of the moonlight. She looks so beautiful. Thorn shook his head, flicking his tail. FOCUS, Thorn! Don’t become a love-struck idiot! Not that I wasn’t one to begin with… We finally made it out of the forest only twenty minutes later and Canopy let out an exhausted breath. “We should be okay here. Let’s sleep.” Thorn nodded, watching as she curled up on the grass, tucking her nose under her tail and closing her eyes. He laid down beside her, pulling her close with his tail, letting his head rest on her neck, and closed his own eyes. Thorn felt a poke. And another. Then three more. He cracked open his eyes. Canopy was standing over him, grinning. “Come on, sleepyhead! Get your tailed butt up!” Thorn murmured protest until she nosed his side, kicking him up. He yelped, hopping to his paws. “Okay, okay! I’m up!” She plopped a dead rabbit on the top of his muzzle, and the enticing smell of fresh flesh is almost unbearable. He forced himself not to drool. “Eat!” “You shouldn’t be hunting.” He shot back. “You could’ve woken me up earlier and I would’ve gone.” “Blah blah, annoyances. I’m fine, Thorny!” She chirped carelessly, going to give Thorn more gray hairs. “I’m not broken, I can hunt a bit. It won’t be good for our pups if I get lazy too!” She got close, bumping her nose affectionately with his. “Don’t worry. I’m making sure I don’t overexert myself.” “You better.” Thorn murmured, before taking the rabbit and tearing into it. “So where do we go now?” Canopy asked. “To find Comet? Or Gashtalon?” Thorn tilted his head, thinking. “Both. Comet first, then Gashtalon.” Canopy poked him teasingly with her tail. “Well look who’s choosing his best friend over his mate’s ex!” “Unless you want to do it the other way around? I know Gashtalon might have… mixed feelings about seeing you again.” He said. “Comet might prepare us for that.” “I was teasing, Thorny. Of course we can go check up on your bestie.” Thorn laughed softly. Oh stardust. I love this she-wolf.
I am rewriting Chronicles of a Wolf books one and two. I will share the rewritten chapters here, for you to read. I will keep the general story, but make it better, more descriptive, and less terrible in the first place.
