hiii i'm zephy! i'm an aspiring poet, singer, and VA! any thoughts or pieces of advice you have for me are appreciated, anywho enjoy! About this poem: So 'Forever Forward' is one of the many slogans at my school so I used it for inspiration. This poem was submitted to a poetry competition for people of color with the theme of 'I belong' despite all of these years. I'm Hmong. We're an ethnic group from China specifically and then we immigrated to Laos. Then the Vietnam War began and we then immigrated again to Thailand by crossing the Mekong River. But there were some who stayed. America partnered with the Hmong, General Vang Pao specifically and promised us a life in America if the Hmong people fought besides them. One male from every family fought. One day, America ditched the Hmong to fight on their own. So most people who fought, they died. As of those who immigrated to Thailand, they lived in Refugee Camps. They were dirty, cramped, and food was limited. Though I never experienced this, my dad crossed the Mekong River on my poj's (grandmother's) back as a baby, my mom was born in the refugee camps, and one of my yawgs (grandpas) is a veteran. We're a minority group still making our way through life. idk why I explained this, I felt inclined to tho
CREDS TO MEEEE (don't steal my poem) image is NOT mine [ scroll for poem ] /"Forever Forward"/ Maybe that's just a word that people say You're trying to see past it all; All the dirty, All the clean, Yet it's just another wall. You stare and stare at the blank white screens and drift off into the abyss of eternal emptiness You can't help but imagine being at the Mekong River; What it must've been like for those there; To watch your loved ones die before your eyes, People drowning. Death? It hurts. It's not like you /want/ to think this You just do. It's an everyday reminder to keep on going No. Matter. What. You break eye contact and relax. Your shoulders rest, Your fists unclench, breathe. breathe. breathe. You look up; forward You see all of your friends You realize that you're not /just/ an alone hmong You're all back together again You refuse to let this end. So you pick yourself up--- run from the dark--- and go to the place where you most belong; in the light.
