It was here. His warrior ceremony had just passed. Finally, after moons of training and hard work, he was Truffleswirl. But the training hadn't been the challenge; it was the cats who he'd trained with, or lack thereof... Ilexpaw, his only sister... she had left so early. She was barely an apprentice when her health began to decline, and she starved during their first Leafbare. Sunflowerpaw... they had the strongest connection. He was always there to encourage and lighten the mood. The two of them had play-fought together, dreamed together of their ceremonies. Now... he was here. He'd made it, but Sunny was lost... now he would never know his brother's warrior name. Cornflowerpaw had been a silent supporter of him, as Truffle often tried to be for his clanmates. He too had been killed, almost as soon as Ilex had gotten sick. Violetpaw... why had he gone, too? He had talked to Truffle so little, and when he left, it felt as if Truff never knew his own brother. His father left when he was born, so Truff had no memories of him. He remembered asking Hollysting why he had gone, thinking that Smolder had hated him... he still couldn't stop his mind from going there. She had comforted him, and insisted it wasn't his fault. Hollysting... he missed her. His mother had been great to him and his siblings, though impatient or sad at times always helping them or reassuring them if they needed it. One of her old mates had killed her when he was four moons old, leaving him orphaned and confused about what happened. Soon after his apprenticeship, he made a friend. Kestrelkit was always happy to help out, and loved flowers... her excitement always made him smile. But he was just getting to know her when an older warrior snuck out of camp one night, and she insisted on coming. They got separated, and a fox took her life. Even his mentor, Willowsway, had starved in the Leafbare famine. He still felt responsible for that; it was so recent, and he should have hunted more. If he had, maybe he wouldn't be grieving the cat who taught him how... Badgerpaw, a common hunting partner, had made it to their warrior ceremony. Badgergaze was a companion when he was grieving for Kes and helped take his mind off of things. A great hunter too... but he went on an exploration and never came back. Why had Starclan taken so many cats? It wasn't fair... He should be used to it by now, so why had he always felt empty when he thought about it? Many days recently he had been feeling so... Alone. Oh Starclan, he thought, why did you leave me behind? By myself? Reaching the end of the path, he was almost back to camp. He didn't feel ready to face his clan. Turning back around, he wandered back through the forest, ignoring the trails this time. Somehow, now he needed to be alone.
