With the kraken gone and the frozen lake returned to its original state, the Arena has been quiet as of late. However, the Capitol has only grown louder. As the number of remaining tributes dwindles, the Capitol residents celebrate, and preparations are already underway for the Victory Tour of their soon-to-be champion. Bottles of champagne are popped and tokens are exchanged between the wealthiest of the wealthy, who now place their bets more rapidly than ever before. Meanwhile, in the Arena, things are beginning to change. The tributes, having taken time to hide and recover in the snowiest depths of the arena, now watch as the ice shelves beneath them shift. It is slow movement at first-enough to catch their attention-but before they know it, crevasses open up beneath them, and with widened eyes, they are swallowed whole. Hours later, tributes awaken from their slumber, perhaps a bit bruised and disoriented, and find themselves surrounded by ice. Beneath the snow-covered landscape of the Arena is a series of glacier caves and tunnels that is impossible to navigate on one's own. Thankfully, after the tributes' fall, they have found themselves a new companion: a penguin. The penguin tilts its head, flaps its flippers, and begins to waddle away. Though they are hesitant to get up at first, the penguin is insistent, and tributes follow in pursuit as water slowly beginning to drip from the ceiling of ice. The fourth event of Round Twelve is a fatal battle against an assigned tribute or mutt. Each tribute will be led to their partner by a penguin of the same species, similar to past methods of pairing. The pairings are as follows: Wheels vs Jackalope Arctic Hare Mutt - African Penguin Splendid vs Leer - Little Penguin Harpey vs Ellis - Chinstrap Penguin Tiger vs Elysian - Magellanic Penguin Do not worry about the health of the penguin species in the cold weather, as they have been modified by the Capitol and are doing quite well :) Please discuss with your partner who goes first, whether weapons will be allowed, etc. Checks are due 5/18.
